General description

Thick Riggs is an ideal base for up to eight people to make the most of the popular village of Portinscale. Set at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac just a 20 minute walk into Keswick, with spectacular views and a wealth of walking and cycling on the doorstep this spacious four bedroom house is a great find. The house has large gardens, great room proportions and huge windows drenching the place in light and making the most of its fantastic situation.

On arrival at the house guests enter via a large glass porch. There's plenty of space in here for shoes and muddy boots along with a handy chair for changing out of them after rainy day walks. Heading through the main front door there's a welcoming entrance hall with monks bench and grandfather clock, from here all the other rooms are accessed. Immediately to the right is the modern shower room, it has a sink, WC, large rectangular shower enclosure with mixer shower and a luxurious drencher head, perfect for soaking away tired muscles after long walks.

The next door leads to the spacious and comfortable living and dining room. It's a gorgeous dual-aspect space with a huge bay window and door looking out onto the balcony, gardens and mighty Skiddaw in the distance. There are two comfy sofas as well as two armchairs set around the TV and DVD player, there's also an ornate electric bar heater for sitting around on chilly evenings. This large open plan space also has an antique dresser and writing desk should you have brought work along on your trip or if you'd just like to write some postcards in comfort while watching the visiting birdlife to the front garden. There's a large round dining table set into a nook where the owners have also thoughtfully left a great choice of books. Next to the dining space there is another glass inglenook, with a comfy armchair, for accessing the front garden or just enjoying the morning sunshine with a cuppa and a good book!

Beyond the living area is the bright modern kitchen. Renovated to a high standard the kitchen has a built-in fan oven, gas hobs, dishwasher, microwave, large fridge-freezer, washing machine, breakfast bar and all the crockery and cookware you'll need hidden within the high shine, soft-close units. The wonderful large window once again frames that glorious view - you might find that you have plenty of volunteers for the washing up with a view like that to keep them occupied.

Moving back to the main hallway and the rest of the accommodation. Firstly to the lovely light twin room, once again boasting that glorious view to the north. It has a small wardrobe, a chest of drawers and bookshelves with a great choice of books for your stay. Onwards to the spacious master bedroom which benefits from a huge bay window giving wonderful afternoon and evening light. The room has a super-kingsize bed which can be made up as a twin if you desire (please advise on booking if you require this). There's also a large chest of drawers and a hanging rail for clothes storage. Looking out to the front of the house there is the double bedroom and bunk room. The double has a chest of drawers, hanging hooks and a raised shelf for storage, while the bunk room is a small space, it's ideal for little ones to commandeer as their own den (please note the bunk room is only suitable for children). Lastly there's the family bathroom which has an over-bath mixer shower, sink and WC.

Outside the house has plenty to offer guests too. For an evening glass of wine the balcony leading out from the living room could scarcely be bettered. Stone stairs lead down from here to the multi-level back garden. There's plenty of space for outdoor dining, several lawns and mature fruit trees for those lucky enough to be visiting when the fruit ripens. To the front there is a gently sloping garden, thoughtfully planted with shrubs for year-round colour and an outdoor bench to capture the best of the morning sun. There's even plenty of storage for bikes in the garage if required. In all, Thick Riggs makes a comfortable and welcoming base to enjoy all that this area has to offer.
