Beautiful cottage and lovely welcome from the owners. The welcome basket with eggs , marmalade, bread and milk was a nice touch. The village is quiet. There are lovely walks from the door and we loved the ducks wandering round.

Hi Helen, it sounds like you had a wonderful relaxing break at Barn Cottage. The little extras make a big difference don't they? It sounds like you made the most of the fab walks from the doorstep. Until next time.

The cottage is in a very small village with no local shop so very isolated. We found it very comfortable and easy to return to following day trips out. Owners had provided a small welcome back of bread, marmalade, milk and a few eggs which was nice, as were the owners. As there is nothing in the village you would need to plan trips or be content to either have a day in the cottage or explore the surrounding fields, there is a nice stream with ducks around the corner. The stairs in the cottage are bare wood and quite steep and slippery, so you would need to be careful of older people or children slipping on them. There is also a slate step at the bottom which is the same as the flooring and can easily be missed, I did and jarred myself a bit. My only criticisms would be that the only shower facility in the cottage was an old fashioned attachment you put over the plugs and/or a blue jug. Was very inefficient and not at all practical so installation of a proper one would be better. There is also an old immersion heater for water which isn't convenient for a family with children using the cottage, it takes a long time to boost the water supply so you get enough to wash up and have a bath - updating to a modern combi boiler is a must in my view. There is a lovely wood burner in the downstairs room which throws out a lot of heat and would be very cosy in the colder months, we had good weather so only lit it once. The bedrooms were very spacious, light and comfortable although not a fan of the old fashioned white smocks hung around the walls - creeped my daughter out too. All in all a lovely holiday in the Lake District.

Hi Elaine, thank you for your review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay at Barn Cottage. The location is stunning, the perfect place to get away from it all. It's a fantastic area for walking too with many great walks from the doorstep. Keswick and Cockermouth are just a short drive away and both have lots of lovely independent shops, and a great selection of places to eat and drink.I hope you enjoyed exploring the local area.
I appreciate your feedback about the shower and heater and have passed this on to the owner. I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.
