We had a nice time at Birkbank, however there are a few things that could have been improved. The information was all about our nearest town Keswick which was 18 miles and a 35 minute drive!! Clearly not our nearest town. No supermarket info given and without 4G or wifi we had to find this. It was only Minutes away in cockermouth! Which is the nearest town. There is a fantastic pub called Kirkstile and I had to work out how to walk there. This should have been included! There was no wifi and no 3G or4G which made it more difficult given the very poor information booklet which was useless. The house was dusty and full of cobwebs. The furniture and bedding was not brilliant and if we did not have a handy man with us we would not have been able to operate the TV or fix the already broken door handles.

Hello Chris, Thanks for your review of Birkbank. Birkbank is located in Mosser which is described on our website as being close to Cockermouth. We are always happy to answer any questions our visitors may have about our cottages especially wifi and mobile signal as it can be challenging in some areas so that they can make an informed choice when choosing a cottage. I have passed your comments on to the owner who manages the cottage himself. Overall I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back to The Lakes very soon.

Birkbank is a great cottage in a fantastic location for peace and quiet. Cockermouth is only five minutes away by car which has supermarket and Petrol. Kitchen is well equipped. Having read previous review regarding cue tips we bought some so the kids could play pool. Would stay again but cottage does need a little tlc.

Hello Zoe, it sounds as though you enjoyed a relaxing stay at Birkbank. Loweswater is one of my favourite lakes for wild swimming - did you try it? If not it's the perfect excuse to return.

We stayed at Birkbank as a group of 12 and enjoyed having the large kitchen, the games room and lots of bedrooms and bathroom facilities. Everything was very clean and the local area is great to explore either by walking from the door or driving - Cockermouth was an excellent local town well served with good restaurants and shops. What let the property down was the run down farm buildings and garden, only having one small electric oven to cater for large groups (the Rayburn is still broken), only having 11 chairs, the extension dining table being smaller than the actual table, leaks from the showers into the pool room, loose doorhandles, no wood for the burners and other aspects which could easily be improved to make this a great place to stay. We did enjoy our week but overall felt a little more tlc would have helped.

Hi Dianne, thank you for your review. I'm so glad you all enjoyed your stay at Birkbank. It sounds like you managed to do a good bit of exploring, Cockermouth is lovely isn't it?
I'm so sorry to hear there were some issues during your stay. I'll make sure the owner knows about the leaks from the showers and the loose door handles, I really appreciate you letting me know about this.I'll also pass on your other comments and suggestions for improvement.
I'm so glad you managed to have a good time at Birkbank despite these issues. I hope you can come back to the Lakes again soon.
