Fantastic views with walks from the door, plus a clean and comfortable cottage. We would happily stay again and we were sad our week was cut on third day due to Cumbria entering Tier 4 Covid restrictions. Only drawback is no village store or pub so you need to go to Keswick for all such amenities and the bus route is on the A591. However, it's only a couple of miles walk into Keswick. It does have a property above which means when occupied you do hear every footstep - we only had one day occupied above us and we are fairly tolerant people anyway.

Whilst in a truly amazing location in terms of the view of the Lake District and proximity to the northern fells, the biggest problem with the cottage is the soundproofing (or lack thereof) with the upper house and holidaymakers should be aware of this - or ideally some soundproofing should be installed in the upper house - thick specialist underlay, carpets etc. as footsteps above are very intrusive and it is difficult to bring up the topic with other residents whilst on holiday! However overall this didn’t spoil our break, and the plusses definitely outweigh the minuses. Generally the place and appliances are a little dated and there wasn’t too much evidence of ‘deep clean’ prior to our arrival. On the plus side the wood/coal burner was fantastic on chilly October evenings and the free fuel provided was a really nice touch. Wifi was excellent too. Overall we had a truly lovely break and the cottage was a superb base to explore the area and enjoy the view from the picture windows!

Hi Matt, many thanks for your comments, it really is an amazing location, isn't it? I'm sorry to hear that you had issues with the noise. I have passed on your comments to the owners and they have said that they have actually installed soundproofing material under the Upper House floorboards, but this was many years ago, so they will happily look into what options may be available now to help further minimise the impact noise. They have also suggested that placing a sign in the Upper House may be a good idea to remind guests to be considerate of those below. They are sorry that you were disturbed during your stay, but they're grateful for bringing the issue to their attention so that can look into options to rectify this. It sounds like you had a great time and got plenty of exploring done during your stay - here's to more fabulous Lake District adventures!
