There are spacious gardens at Low Swinside including an enclosed front garden boasting views that stretch from the Solway Firth and the Scottish mountains to the west and towards the fells of Loweswater and Crummock to the south.
The location of the Farmhouse near to the lakes of Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater and their surrounding fells means the options for walking and biking at any level are unlimited.
There is plenty to to in the local area with Whinlatter visitor center a 5 minute drive away. Facilities include a café, bike hire, live Osprey nest video camera (May-Aug) as well as the Go-Ape high ropes course. Cockermouth is 10 minutes drive and is home to the Jennings Brewery which runs a tour for any beer lovers as well Wordsworth House, the birth place of the famous Lakes poet. Keswick is 20 minutes drive away. Here you can enjoy boating on Derwentwater available as well as the bustling centre with lots of outdoor shops.
For sustenance the fantastic local pub (The Wheatsheaf) is just a 1.5 mile walk down a lovely quiet lane to the village of Lorton. They also run a small village shop from the pub but for larger shops there is a Sainsbury’s in Cockermouth. If you are coming for a special occasion the excellent restaurants of Winder Hall (also in Lorton) and The Cottage in the Wood (just past the Whinlatter visitors centre - 12 mins) are both recommended.
