This idyllic rural retreat is perfect for small families and couples looking to get away from it all. Take long walks in the surrounding fells and enjoy day trips to Lake District attractions such as Windermere and Coniston Water.

For those that want to get away from it all, this cottage offers a tranquil, detached, beautiful chocolate-box Lakeland cottage with a fantastic mix of traditional charm and modern comfort. Dating back 250 years, the cottage is full of original character features; from wooden beams to the stunning slate floors, there’s plenty to delight in. Inside there’s a charming country dining kitchen with a modern induction range-style cooker. The wonderful living room has its own wood burner and a feature vaulted ceiling. Upstairs are two double bedrooms and two bathrooms, one with a shower, the other with a bath. Outside the cottage is a rambling garden, with stunning views over the surrounding countryside. Low Longmire Cottage is happy to welcome one well behaved dog, but we do ask that they are kept downstairs and off the furniture.

Located close to the hamlet of Oxen Park, in this forgotten quiet corner of the National Park, Low Longmire Cottage enjoys a peaceful, rural setting. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, there is plenty to explore from the door. Oxen Park itself and the neighbouring Rusland Valley and Grizedale Forest, all a haven for a wide variety of flora and fauna, offer plenty of fantastic walking opportunities. Be sure to stop off at one of the two traditional pubs, both within a 20-minute walk, for some refreshments too.

Bustling Windermere is just a scenic 20-minute drive away. Why not catch the ferry across Lake Windermere to Hawkshead? Another charming Lakeland village once home to Beatrix Potter. The village of Coniston, sitting beneath the mighty Coniston Old Man - a fantastic fell walk for the avid hiker, is a 30-minute drive away. Here you can learn all about Donald Campbell's water speed records or take a ride on the Steam Yacht Gondola to enjoy the water at a more leisurely pace. The south Cumbrian coast is also within easy reach; there are plenty of great spots to choose from here so enjoy a bracing coastal walk whilst you take in the beautiful wide-open vistas. Whatever you decide to do during your stay, this property is the perfect place to retreat to.

Through the covered porch, ideal for leaving wet coats and muddy boots, is the wonderful kitchen/diner. With slate flooring and a feature stone fireplace, this room really is the heart of this home. Painted blue cupboards match the front door and the induction range-style oven is sure to be a hit with the cooks in the group. The oval dining table is ideal for convivial mealtimes and sits opposite the kitchen area, making this a great social space.

In what was a former barn, down a step from the kitchen is the lovely living room. Light and bright thanks to the triple aspect windows, this room has a vaulted ceiling and wood burning stove making it at once spacious but still welcoming and cosy. The two armchairs and one two-seater sofa are positioned with the wood burner as the focus of the room, perfect for relaxing evenings in front of the fire; or choose the antique wooden rocking chair and catch up with a good book.

Upstairs on the first floor are the two beautiful double bedrooms. There are also two bathrooms on the first floor, a real treat for a cottage of this size.

There are stunning views over the surrounding countryside from both bedroom windows, sure to inspire your adventures. Both bedrooms have a useful wardrobe with drawers and hanging rail for storage.

At the top of that stairs are the bathrooms; the shower room has WC, washbasin, and shower cubicle; and the bathroom has a WC, washbasin and bath so all tastes are catered for, whether you prefer a refreshing shower or a soak in the tub.

As well as driveway parking for two cars, at the rear of the cottage is a delightful garden. The lawn is interspersed with gnarly old trees and areas of interesting planting. Keep an eye out for the wide variety of birds who also like to pay the garden a visit. Looking out over the surrounding countryside, the rustic wooden bench is the perfect spot to observe the occasional deer while enjoying your peaceful morning coffee or an evening aperitif.

We really enjoyed staying at Low Longmire Cottage. It was as so unbelievably peaceful and tranquil. Probably less than 10 cars went by all week. A great base for loads of activities in the Lakes plus lots of opportunities for local walks and nearby pubs. For supplies, Booths supermarket is in Ulverston and is such a fantastic shop. I loved the decoRead morer in the cottage and everything was comfortable and homely. A wonderful basket of goodies was included and the hosts made us feel valued and welcomed. Hide

The owner of Low Longmire Cottage, has supplied the property with 'special additions' not commonly found in holiday lets. For example electric blankets to keep us senior citizens warm in bed during the cold winter months and razors and shaving foam for the absent minded male guests.

Low Longmire is a charming cottage inside and out with a character all of its own. We had the pleasure of watching the garden burst into bloom while we were there and the new nest box was being used by blue tits who were feeding chicks. The quality of the fixtures and fittings and equipment was very good with a quirky mixture of modern and antique Read morefurniture. The views of mountain and field, woods and flowers from every window plus the peace and tranquillity made our holiday perfect. Hide
