On arrival at the cottage you are greeted by a warm, welcoming hallway off which all of the rooms are easily accessible. Like the rest of the property the hall has fresh modern decor, wooden latched doors, local artwork and a mixture of traditional and modern elements which give the place a lovely cosy atmosphere.
The first room you reach is the kitchen, it's a brightly decorated little country kitchen well equipped with everything you might need for your stay. It has a fan oven with halogen hobs, a dishwasher, microwave, sandwich toaster, fridge freezer and washing machine. This room looks out to the back of the property which is blessed with lots of bird visitors. You might find yourself lingering over the washing up while watching their comings and goings.
Beyond the kitchen is the simply stunning living/dining area. This wonderful high ceilinged room has stunning glass double doors out on to the raised terrace so on a sunny day it's wonderful to have the doors open out on to the magnificent view. The room has a sofa and chair for relaxing and a dining table with four chairs around which you can have lots of post dinner conversations planning your Lake District adventures. You might find it difficult to drag yourself away from this table after breakfast however the view should give you plenty of inspiration to get out into the fells. The living room has a television with Freeview and a DVD player. It also boasts a huge antique bookcase with a wealth of wonderful books to enjoy during your stay and a stereo with a range of classical CDs. The owners have also thougtfully left plenty of games and jigsaws to entertain you on rainy days and evenings. One of my favourite features of this room is the small window set high in the apex of the room. It's a little detail but makes a wonderful frame for you to relax on the sofa and watch the ever changing sky.
Onward to the cosy single bedroom. Ideal for a child or teenager this room looks out onto the trees and mature shrubs to the back of the house. It has a lovely traditional window through which, if you're lucky, you might spot one of the red squirrels that visit the house. There are many proerties that boast rooms with a view but in the case of the master bedroom at Little Orchard the title is richly deserved. While sitting in the metal framed double bed you can see Skiddaw, Catbells, Grizedale Pike, Barf and Barrow to name just a few of the fell tops on view. The room has been thoughtfully decorated in light airy tones and using some beautiful pieces of antique furniture incuding a large wardrobe and curved desk.
The light modern bathroom has a full bath with a curved shower enclosure. A lovely place to soak away aching muscles after long lake district walks.
Venturing outside you'll be rewarded with a beautiful raised terrace which enjoys day-round sunshine. If you're up with the lark you can enjoy the sun rising over mighty Skiddaw or indulge in an evening glass of wine while watching the sheep in the neighbouring fields as the sunset lights up the fells. Alternatively that wonderful lawn is just made for cartwheeling. Just make sure it's not right after dinner!
