A spacious Lakeland retreat, overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake, with spacious accommodation and delightful gardens, close to the shore and 4 miles from Keswick.

Escape to this large character cottage with beautiful views over Bassenthwaite Lake and the surrounding fells. Situated in a peaceful location surrounded by wildlife just outside Thornthwaite, the property sleeps up to eight people in four gorgeous bedrooms. The bedrooms are all sizeable with stunning views over the lakes and fells and the attractive lawned garden with patio also make the most of the views. This is a stunning cottage with plenty of room for families and friends to gather together but also space for everyone to be able to get away for a quiet moment.

Located in a small group of properties set well back from the road a short distance outside Thornthwaite village, this cottage has a selection of walks that can be done from the door. Leave the car at home and take an evening stroll down to Bassenthwaite Lake shore via the footpath just outside the door or explore the paths around Powter How woodland. The adventurous can try out wild swimming and paddleboarding, whilst Barf and Lords Seat up to Whinlatter and Wythop offer a range of routes for cyclists and walkers and the C2C cycleroute passes nearby. The osprey viewpoint may be on the other side of the lake but the adult birds regularly fish in Bassenthwaite and can be seen equally well from the west side, a must see for wildlife lovers. Head either way along the lake and you will find a pub, the renowned Pheasant Inn at the north end of Bassenthwaite Lake, or a choice of traditional country pubs in Braithwaite.

The north-western Lake District offers numerous attractions to suit everyone. Keswick, vibrant hub of the northern Lakes, is just 4 miles away offering a plethora of outdoor activities, plus rainy day options: museums, cafes, restaurants and the chance to take in a show at the Theatre by the Lake. The walking in this area is second to none with both well known and lesser known fells to explore plus plenty of low level walks too. Visit the attractive market town of Cockermouth or continue over to the coast for a change of scene, you could even head up to Carlisle and follow in the footsteps of the Romans along Hadrian's Wall. Closer to home, indulge yourself with an afternoon of relaxation at the spa at Armathwaite Hall or take a tour of the Lakes Distillery finishing with a tasting, lovely! With easy access to the A66, the whole area is on your doorstep and this property is perfectly placed to offer great days out whilst providing a warm welcome back afterwards.

As soon as you pull up to at the cottage you cannot miss one of the main attractions of this house - the beautiful views across Bassenthwaite Lake to the Skiddaw fells beyond. Renovated throughout to a high standard, this property is a traditional Lake District cottage with all the modern comforts and conveniences you could wish for. Head inside and you're sure to feel right at home here.

The fitted kitchen is well equipped and sure to be a hit with the chefs in the group. Well equipped with a fantastic range style oven which has two electric ovens, electric grill and five gas hobs, a useful washer/dryer, larder style fridge/freezer and handy dishwasher so there'll be no need to fight over who has to do the washing up! The breakfast bar is the perfect place for a peaceful breakfast, or for an evening aperitif whilst keeping the cook company.

The living-dining room is an expansive social space. Gather round the dining table, the perfect place for comparing notes on the day's events over a hearty home cooked meal, before moving to the comfortable living area. Relax in front of the feature double sided wood burner, ideal for cosy nights in in front of the fire. For entertainment there's a Smart TV with Freeview. The double sided wood burner also serves the bright sun room. A wonderfully calming room, it's the perfect place to catch up with a good book - if you can tear yourself away from the stunning views over the lake and fells that is. Ornithologists will love sitting in here too and watching the comings and goings of the many birds who also like to pay this cottage - or its garden at least! - a visit.

Also on the ground floor is a fantastic games room, perfect should rain stop play outside. In here you'll find a selection of games and books as well as table football, all sure to be a hit with children and adults alike. A fantastic modern shower room, with a WC, wash basin and fabulous walk in shower, completes the ground floor.

Head upstairs to the first floor and you'll find the four spacious bedrooms. First up we have the beautiful master bedroom which has delightful views towards Whinlatter Forest. Why not relax in the super-king bed and enjoy an indulgent lie in? You are on holiday after all! This bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom with a WC, wasbasin and bath with shower over, so all tastes are catered for.

Next up there are two lovely super-king rooms. Both of these bedrooms contain zip-and-link beds and can be made up as twins upon request and have wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. Last but by no means least is the charming double room which has a 4 foot 6 bed. As well as shower room on the ground floor, upstairs you'll find another fantastic family shower room with a WC, wash basin and modern shower enclosure, perfect for reinvigorating muscles tired from walking.

The garden enjoys stunning views of the Skiddaw fells across Bassenthwaite Lake, take a seat on the garden furniture and just take it all in. There is lots of wildlife around, sit and wait and see what comes by - you will also have a grandstand seat for watching the ospreys fishing in the lake in the summer. There is also parking for three cars on the gravelled area by the cottage, as well as a shed for storing bikes (remember to bring your own bike locks with you) if you prefer to explore on two wheels.

This wonderful character cottage, situated in a beautiful spot, is certainly one not to be missed.

The house was ideal. A proper 8 bed house with a sociable downstairs, a good range of bedrooms and stunning views. It is also in an ideal location with the Lakes easily accessible but a quiet base. The cottage is surprisingly large. It does not show well in the pictures as it looks small. There is a good deal of space. It is well appointed except for the kitchen knives that need replaced or machine sharpened. It is a very comfortable place to stay...we had a lovely time.

The cottage was a great base to explore the Lakes. It was well equipped and had lots of seating areas to relax at the end of the day. The beds were very comfortable and clean. Although towels were stated as not provided, hand towels, & tea towels were, which was great. Generous parking area which really could take 4 cars if needed.

We absolutely loved the property and the spaciousness of every room. All the bedrooms were lovely and with great views.
