- The problem with this property is that it has dangerously low beams throughout the downstairs living area and lounge which makes the property dangerous and hazardous.
There are three tranverse beams in the lounge beams one of which is only 5' 6" high with the inevitable result that people bang their heads.
There are references to visitors banging their heads and jokingly that you won't be the first and you won't be the last. Head injuries are not a joke. You cannot have a relaxing holiday when in the house and the low height ruined our stay.
Any adult of even average height will painfully bang their heads. If this was a place of work it would be condemned and its certainly not good enough for a holiday .
I banged my head twice within the first 10 minutes and had to constantly crouch when downstairs. I bought a hard hat on Amazon to protect myself and despite everything would have knocked myself unconscious if I had not been wearing it.
People should make an informed decision before booking as to whether they are prepared to hire a property with such low head height.
If we had known we certainly would not have booked.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to write a review following your stay at Laurel Cottage. I'm so sorry to hear that you bumped your head on the beams - the cottage information does clearly state that due to the age of the building (it was built way back in 1705!), there are low beams here and we do advise guests to mind their head. The cottage was completely refurbished a few years ago by the owners, fully in accordance with Building Regulations. That being said, I appreciate your feedback and the owners and I have added some more information to the website, in order to make the description even more prominent. I really hope you still managed to enjoy your break. The location is idyllic isn't it? Just perfect if you enjoy getting out for some good walks. I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.
