Nestled on the banks of the River Eamont as it flows out of the northern end of Ullswater, Pooley Bridge is a special village with an atmosphere all of its own. In the village centre the Fish Cross commemorates a charter granted by King John in the 12th century. It is a bustling place with pubs, tearooms, village shop, post office, an off licence selling speciality groceries, a Steamer pier, rowing and motor boat hire, pony trekking and countless walks and cycle rides to enjoy. Ullswater itself is widely thought of as one of the most picturesque of the lakes in the National Park. In fact William Wordsworth went so far to describe it as: ‘the happiest combination of beauty and grandeur, which any of the lakes affords.’ He found inspiration from its shores to write his most famous work; Daffodils. Why not take one of these elegant heritage vessels to Aira Force Pier and take in the gorgeous riverside amble up through enchanting woodland to the stupendous sight of the waterfall cascading 70ft down a rocky ravine? On arrival at this cottage there are several wooden steps to the front door through which you'll find a porch with boot tray and hanging space. Perfect for all that outdoor wear you're sure to use during your Lake District stay.
From here you are greeted by the wonderful open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. It's a splendid airy open space drawing in light from several large windows and two double doors leading out on to the decking. It has rustic oak flooring, a sumptuous leather corner sofa, Smart TV and DVD player and a delightful built-in window seat which makes the perfect place to curl up with a good book and occasionally look up to enjoy the beautiful rolling views that this marvelously situated property commands. A step up takes you up to the lovely raised dining area with seating for six around the oak table. Adjacent to this is the extremely well equipped oak kitchen. It has granite worktops, a raised fan oven, halogen hob, an eye level microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer dryer and all the crockery and utensils the foodies among you will relish. It makes an extremely sociable food preparation space made all the more delightful by the double doors opening out onto the raised decking which has space for outdoor dining and a wonderful built-in BBQ making use of the old chimney breast. Aside from eating outside you might well find it the perfect place to enjoy an al fresco morning cuppa or sunset glass of wine.
The high spec finish continues as you head through the hall to the colour coordinated bedrooms. All of the bedrooms boast wall mounted TVs with Freeview, solid oak furniture, comfortable mattresses, hairdryers and thoughtfully chosen local artwork and photography. You first arrive at the 'green room', a king-size bedroom with luxurious en-suite shower room, built in dresser and wardrobe and a large bay window looking out to the front of the house. Moving on you'll find the 'blue' king-size master bedroom, another luxurious space with a built in wardrobe and dresser, a large bay window overlooking the woodland to the front of the house and an en-suite shower room with a large walk in shower enclosure. Moving on to the 'purple' twin room, this has an oak wardrobe and dresser and looks out to the rear of the house over the fields where you can enjoy the sight of the new lambs gamboling around in the spring.
The family bathroom has a large 'p' bath with over bath mixer shower and a large drencher head. An ideal space to soak away tired muscles from those long walks.
