Lake District Agricultural Shows
The Lake District is home to a host of world famous agricultural shows and here we've rounded up our top 10 key events to watch out for if you're staying in one of our Lake District cottages.
The Cumberland Show is a firm family favourite and will be held on June 6th at Carlisle Racecourse. You can see agricutural events, browse stalls with food, drink and local goods and enjoy entertainment all day long. The perfect way to spend a sunny day.
The annual Appleby Horse Fair will take place in the small Cumbrian town of Appleby on June 7th. The fair has run for hundreds of years and travellers from all over Europe come together to trade horses and meet old friends.
The Keswick agricultural Show takes place over the August bank holiday weekend on 31st August. The horse shows and jumping are the events to look out for here, although there are all the old favourites too – Cumberland wrestling, sheep & cattle showing and stalls of arts, crafts, local produce and toys. Visit the Penrith Agricultural Show at Brougham Hall Farm on July 25th and browse the market stalls before watching competitions with farm livestock. For our cottages near Penrith, click here.
The Cockermouth Agricultural Show is at The Fitz in Cockermouth on August 1st. The action packed show has fantastic entertainment for everyone to enjoy.
The popular Lowther Show takes place at the Lowther Estate in Penrith on August 15th and August 16th and you can enjoy a showcase of countryside living.
One of the biggest events in the country, the Westmorland County Show will be hosted at the County Showground near Milnthorpe on September 10th.
Wasdale Head Show and Shepherds’ Meet is a traditional Cumbrian show in Wasdale on October 10th.
On September 26th check out the Eskdale Show - a famous Lakeland Show of Herdwick Sheep which are bred and reared on the surrounding fells by local farmers. The show also has competition classes for hound dogs, terriers, sheep dogs, poultry and shepherds crooks. There are also stalls full of Cumbrian goods, sporting events for children, fell racing, Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling events and hound trailing. For our Eskdale cottages, click here.
Perfect if you're staying at one of our Loweswater Cottages, the Loweswater Show will be held on 6th September. This is the 139th year of the show which features agricultural classes, fell races, vintage vehicles and Westmorland wrestling to name a few events.
