- This was a cosy cottage in a beautiful area and away from it all. It's good value and has nearly everything you need (see below for a couple of suggestions). We stayed for a week. It is only a 5 min drive from the Troutbeck Inn which has an excellent menu especially the Vegan pie and steak and ale pie. There are loads of leaflets in the cottage giving ideas for walks and things to do. We were a 20 minute drive from most of the popular hills and very close to beautiful Ullswater. Keswick is also worth a visit loads to do and an excellent pub The Wainwright.
There are a few things which would make the stay a wee bit more comfortable. The kitchen in the cottage could do with a clean especially the cooker hood which stank of stale fried food making it a bit unpleasant to be in the kitchen unless window wide open for some time. It maybe just needs a new filter or just cleaned? The kitchen cold tap needs a new washer as it is hard to switch off and the bathroom sink cold tap needs a new washer too. Asides from this the cottage is nice and warm and in a beautiful location. It would be handy to have some fresh condiments such as sugar, salt and pepper and tea bags. We brought our own towels as instructed but given that laundry is going to be done anyway it would be a nice touch to have towels provided.
