This spacious ground floor apartment makes for a comfortable base in the beautiful village of Rosthwaite, just a 15-minute drive from Keswick. The location is both tranquil and dramatic with rivers, woodland and mountains surrounding you in all directions. For the walking enthusiast, this really is heaven on your doorstep and you would be hard pushed to find a spot that is more quintessentially Cumbrian, with its slate buildings, craggy outcrops and fields of sheep. There are an endless number of scenic walks straight from your door, whether you want to stroll along the River Derwent, hike up the scree slopes of the apartment's namesake Castle Crag or head out for a full day in the high fells, it's all right there. For those who like to get out biking, there are lots of bridleways in the area and the extremely steep ascent up Honister Pass is a popular challenge amongst road cyclists. If you are simply looking for a relaxing break in the Lake District National Park, then there are many wonderfully scenic picnic spots and lots of cosy old pubs to visit. The open-top bus that runs up and down the valley during the summer months is a perfect way to get acquainted with your surroundings!
The apartment itself has been refurbished in a fresh modern style whilst having retained its traditional charm. It sits on the ground floor of a large old Victorian house, which has been divided into five apartments (Kiln How). Every little detail has been thought of to make your stay as comfortable as possible and the highlight has to be the spacious kitchen/dining area and the large living room, both warm and welcoming spaces with big windows and great views. The large patio area that extends out from the dining room is a great space for those warm evenings: why not dine al fresco or simply enjoy a glass of wine in this lovely rural setting?
If you fancy eating out, you only need to walk 100 yards down the lane and you get to the Scafell Hotel. The Scafell Hotel has a lovely restaurant for fine dining and also a great bar, where you can sample the local ales. Alternatively, you might want to head into Keswick for the evening, where there are an endless range of dining options, as well as a quaint little cinema and the lovely Theatre by the Lake. You certainly won't be short of things to do!
Castle Crag can be booked alongside the other apartments within Kiln How for larger groups and families: Kiln How - Newlands (sleeps 4, 1 dog), Kiln How Cottage (sleeps 2, 1 dog), Kiln How - Catbells (sleeps 2, 1 dog), Kiln How - Green Gable (sleeps 2, 1 dog) and Kiln How - High Spy (sleeps 2, 0 pets).
