- We were very happy with our overall experience of Jesmond Cottage, but we do feel that a few items of detail would have turned this stay "from a four-and-a-half-star into a five-star stay", as our eight-year-old daughter put it.
Firstly, all the details about this cottage state that it's suitable for three people. And that's fine when it comes to the sleeping, washing and general accommodation. But if you intend to stay here and cater for yourself in any great measure, there are woefully inadequate amounts of crockery and cutlery provided. Just having breakfast every day would completely exhaust the supplies of these items.
The owners should bear in mind that people who do stay here early/late in the year are likely to not be able to travel out as widely as in peak season, so may well be confining themselves to the local area, and cooking and otherwise catering for themselves more regularly.
The other issue was that the key for the doors to the back terrace area were missing, or there was no indication of where they were kept. So while we would have only been able to make limited use of this area, we had noticed that the outdoor furniture had been blown over, and we would have liked to have been able to right it, and have the chance to use it.
Our reason for picking Jesmond Cottage was its proximity to Rheged, which we all love. We also think Penrith is one of the real gems of this area. In these respects, we couldn't have asked for much of a better base for our week than here.

Hi Steve, many thanks for your comments, I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We would have been delighted to help you with the key issue had we known. As you say, it's a perfect spot for visiting the Rheged Centre, and Penrith has so much to offer too. Hope to see you again in the future!
