This traditional 17th-century Cumbrian longhouse occupies a stunning elevated position overlooking Loweswater and the surrounding Lakeland Fells. It is secluded, cosy and magical and provides the perfect retreat for families or groups. Renovated in 2013 to an exceptionally high specification, this is a luxurious and substantial property, sleeping eight people in four bedrooms, one which is en-suite. Situated in one of the most scenic areas of the Western Lake District, guests will have easy access to the best of what the area has to offer – walking, cycling, boating and sightseeing. And for those rainy or lazy days, there is abundant living space, with a large TV and fast Wi-Fi.
A tranquil retreat with breathtaking views, the idyllic location is surrounded by open fields and is situated at the end of a private lane with the famous walk, The Old Corpse Road, running nearby. The area is a red squirrel stronghold and enjoys inky black skies and clear starry nights. The local pub is has a longstanding reputation for an excellent atmosphere - matched by the food and beer.
Despite the secluded location, Cockermouth (7 miles) and the main tourist centre of Keswick (12 miles) are both easily accessed by road. Loweswater and the twin lakes of Crummock and Buttermere are all close at hand and within comfortable walking and cycling distance.
You enter the cottage into the spacious slate hallway which is ideal for storing your coats and boots. This leads into the well-equipped kitchen, which boasts uninterrupted views of Loweswater and the fells beyond. The kitchen comprises of an electric range cooker with ceramic five-burner hob, a large oven, a second oven and a separate grill. There is also a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, Belfast sink, built-in undercounter fridge and undercounter freezer. The breakfast area sits just off the kitchen and has a beautiful oak window seat to take advantage of the stunning views to Loweswater. There is also a utility room which houses a further fridge/freezer.
The large beamed sitting room has a beautiful inglenook fireplace with wood burner and comfortable seating. There is a TV with Freeview and DVD. At the far end of the room is the large dining table which comfortably seats ten.
A feature stairway made of twisted enclosed stone and wood leads to a large landing area. Off the landing is a family bathroom with basin, WC and shower over the bath. There is then a half landing with three bedrooms off it, a twin room, a bunk room (with adult-size bunk beds) and a double bedroom. There there is a further double bedroom with a shower room off it, this has a shower enclosure, basin and WC. A cot and a high chair are provided and these are kept in the pantry. Please remember to bring your own bedding for the cot.
Outside there is a courtyard with ample room for parking. To the rear of the property is a lawn with a patio, boasting stunning views down the Loweswater Valley. The lawn is enclosed by a fence around the perimeter. The property is on a private road off which there is a public footpath leading to the local pub and a fantastic walk above Loweswater.
