Property code: SZ272

Escape to the Irt Valley with this secluded cottage with a mature sheltered garden, and access to a glorious private woodland. This is a nature lover's dream!

Offering beautiful accommodation, this cottage is surrounded by magnificent Cumbrian countryside with some of the Lake District’s best walks. Beautifully furnished throughout, here is a cottage that is light and spacious with thoughtful touches and a homey feel. The cottage benefits from having 8.5 acres of private wild woodland, leading down to the River Irt, for you to explore and enjoy. Deep in the woodland is the site of the 'Virgin Mary Well' the origins and history of which are still shrouded in the mystery! The property is situated in a beautiful valley with much mature woodland and is surrounded by wildlife. There are many species of bird, also rabbits, deer and even the occasional rare red squirrel! The cottage is also home to a colony of rare bats, a protected species, and on summer evenings at dusk, the bats can be viewed leaving their roost and flying off to begin their nightly foraging for insects.

Wastwater is your nearest lake, a 15-minute drive, which was voted Britain’s Favourite View by ITV viewers in 2007. This is a peaceful valley and a good starting point to climb Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain. The stars at night here are amazing.

There is plenty to do nearby – the Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway is a firm favourite; Muncaster Castle is less than 10 minutes away and holds a variety of events throughout the year; the coastal sunsets at Drigg are lovely and there are a variety of pubs in the area serving good food and local ales.

This property started life as a large machinery garage for tractors and farm vehicles. It has since been furnished to exacting standards, with thoughtful attention to detail throughout. The spacious hallway leads to the large lounge with dining area at the far end. This room is light and airy with French windows leading to the patio and secluded garden beyond. There is a sense of calm and comfort here. The seating is cosy and convivial and there is TV with DVD. The dining table seats six comfortably and provides a good venue for board games or writing, as well as having a meal.

The kitchen is fully equipped with electric hob and cooker, microwave, full height fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and plenty of storage space.

The downstairs bedroom is decorated with a feeling of freshness. It has two single beds and an en-suite shower room with power shower, WC and sink.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms - the master bedroom is sumptuous with a king-size bed and fabulous furnishings. Skylights give it a natural airy feel. The second double is smaller but also beautiful. These two bedrooms share a family bathroom which has claw bath, separate power shower, WC and sink.

The garden is accessed from the lounge. It is sheltered and has superb uninterrupted views over the Irt Valley. Just off the road leading to the cottage is a private woodland covering 8.5 acres which is available for you to enjoy at your leisure. The twisting woodland paths offer plenty of adventure and lead down to the RIver Irt which originates at Wastwater, England's deepest lake, and winds it's way to the coast. The river is fast flowing so care is required whilst exploring.

It is situated in a beautiful valley with much mature woodland and is surrounded by wildlife. There are many species of bird, also rabbits, deer and even the occasional rare red squirrel! The cottage is also home to a colony of rare bats, a protected species, and on summer evenings at dusk, the bats can be viewed leaving their roost and flying off to begin their nightly foraging for insects.
