We found Iona Cottage to be in a lovely quiet and peaceful location, ideal for walking the far eastern fells. The cottage was warm, comfortable and spacious with a very large garden which would be great in summer months. The kitchen was very well equipped other than having insufficient saucepans and the beds were comfortable. The cottage was well furnished throughout and the wood burner in the lounge was a bonus during our October visit.
We would happily return !

Hello Terry, It's a lovely place to relax and recharge the batteries, isn' it? I really appreciate your feedback regarding the saucepans - the cottage has a 3 piece steamer set of pans, a frying pan, plus a large and small saucepan. The owner has found this sufficient in the past, but will of course monitor this moving forward - thank you. A warm welcome awaits whenever you return.

Hello Becky, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay. The owner has looked into your feedback in regards to the beds and have tightened up some screws that had come loose. A warm welcome awaits whenever you return.

This is great cottage - comfortable and warm for an October week. The area (Eden Valley) is very pretty but be aware it is necessary to drive a little way if you want lakes....... we chose it because we wanted to explore this part of the National Park more. Be prepared for the narrow lanes around the cottage, and practice your reversing skills!
Comfy beds and good central heating were much appreciated! (We didn't need to use the woodburner). The large enclosed garden was lovely and great for our dog. Would be particularly enjoyed in the summer months when you'd be able to sit outside by the summer house.
We would have liked - if not a visitors' book, maybe a book where visitors could record their recommendations for the area? It took us a while to find local walks from the cottage...... For example, we can highly recommend the walks around Lowther Castle, and the Ullswater Lowther Castle Loop. Also the pub/restaurant the George and Dragon at Clifton.
The information booklet was a little out of date - it mentioned some leaflets available for the appliances eg Smart heating etc which were nowhere to be found. And just a heads-up that the oven temperature settings have been largely worn away, so a bit of guesswork needed! Nearly burnt our first meal there!
It is probably worth mentioning on the information page on the website or at least on the confirmation of booking letter that there is NO access through the 5 bar gate closest to the front door of the cottage. (It is a 30 metre narrow path from the car to the door). We arrived in torrential rain and as we had bedding, towels, dog and dog basket and a host of gear, we opened the gate (not marked private) and reversed towards the front door to unload. We were reprimanded by the neighbours who said we had no right of access there. We were apologetic and said we didn't know.........but given the very heavy downpour hoped it was ok? They weren't happy.
Another suggestion for the cottage website - for me it is helpful to know if there is a freezer as I tend to bring a lot of ready-prepared meals from home to see us through the week. (There was - and it was a good size). Also I should point out that the "king-size bed" is not 6' wide but smaller - a slight issue for us as we have a king-size at home.
The above are just observations not criticisms, as we really enjoyed staying at this cottage and would definitely recommend it.
