Access is easy, the lodge being just just 3 miles from the M6 and it is a brilliant base for exploring the Lake District. Ullswater is 3 miles away with pebble beaches all along the lakeshore to discover. You can hire rowing boats, motor boats and canoes and explore the tiny islands that are dotted around the lake.

The Ullswater area offers some of the best walking in the Lake District with the mighty Helvellyn range to the west and the remote High Street fells to the east. There is a wealth of walks available, from big days out striding across the hilltops to shorter valley rambles. When it's time to unwind, its just over a mile to the local pub in nearby Tirril, which is renowned for its excellent food and delightful atmosphere.

This Scandinavian-built lodge has excellent green credentials and a low carbon footprint; the owners wish to encourage green tourism and are members of Nurture Eden which is part of Nurture Lakeland. The lodge is well insulated and electricity is provided by the National Trust Green Energy. The property also has solar panels and heat pump system installed.

It is entered by the front door into a lobby with boot and coat racks, which then leads into the main living area, which is light and spacious with a wood burner (fuel provided) and superb views across the countryside to the Pennines and Eden Valley. The lounge area has a huge L-shaped leather sofa, TV, DVD, video and stereo/radio, together with numerous books and board games. The dining area features a large bay window with a window seat.

The well-equipped kitchen has full-sized dishwasher, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment and electric cooker with double oven with induction hob. There is a high-level drying rack for drying clothes.

The king-size bedroom has been extended and features a spacious layout with an en-suite with a large power shower and WC. Both the king-size and the twin bedrooms have fitted wardrobes and a smaller bedroom has bunk beds. The separate shower room also has a large power shower, WC and electric towel rail.

The lodge is surrounded by lawned gardens and hedges with a number of trees. There is access along the north-west side to one other property but other than that it is very private and has a lovely garden, landscaped with native species. A wonderful conservatory,  accessed directly from the living area, provides a great place for watching the birdlife over a morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine. Please note that although the garden is mostly flat, it slopes away steeply to the north corner.

Lovely quiet location and very homely and well-equipped lodge for a family holiday. Air-to-air heating system works well, and solar panels plus battery makes for a very energy efficient home.

We loved the cottage, just great for a sunny week in the autumn. Easy to get too, and very quiet.

We have just had a great week at Hyggeby Lodge. It is really well equipped, very clean, and it is lovely and private. The location is great, close to Penrith and Pooley Bridge, and has good access to other parts of the lakes too.

This place was excellent, we stayed for a week of chilling out, games and books, and it was perfect. The best stocked kitchen I've had in a holiday let, and lots of firewood for the stove, which made a real difference to everyone's comfort. Lovely vibes and a quiet break.
