This light and airy cottage, all on one level, is perfect for couples, friends or a small family looking for a getaway surrounded by fantastic scenery.

All on one level, this cottage is filled with natural light from the picture windows that look out onto its namesake, the Howgill fells. It has an open-plan lounge with kitchen and dining area, and two bedrooms. It's on a non-working farm in the Yorkshire Dales National Park with lots of little footpaths to discover and lanes to explore by bike. With it's own private terrace, as well as a large shared garden, it's the perfect place to relax after a day out exploring this beautiful part of the world.

The pretty village of Ravenstonedale is a mile down the road and has the rare distinction of still having two very good pubs. A few miles beyond is the small town of Kirkby Stephen with its pleasant shops and cafes – it prides itself on being a ‘walkers are welcome’ town and has lots of vibrant, small independent shops.

A favourite place to visit is Stenkrith Park, a native woodland that borders the River Eden with a variety of pathways including a beautiful viaduct walk and a great wild swimming spot at the far end of the park. Your nearest lake is Haweswater, around 30 minutes away, with Ullswater just beyond or Windermere a 45-minute drive.

A ramp leads to the entrance which opens into a hallway with the living area to one side and two bedrooms (a double and a twin) to the other side. The shower room is at the far end.

The sofa and armchairs in the lounge are perfectly positioned to make the most of the view and the most of the cosy electric wood burner. There is TV with DVDand plenty of DVDs to borrow. At the far end of the room is the kitchen area with dining. The kitchen is equipped with electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and plenty of storage space.

Outside is a private terrace with views towards the Howgill fells and also over the large shared garden which has lots of little nooks and crannies, as well as a summer house and a fire pit! Parking is beside the cottage.

It is a lovely cottage with plenty to do in the area. I would have given 5 stars but for the lack of somewhere to hang wet coats as you enter the property.

This cottage is situated near the Yorkshire Dales nd the Lake District. The house gives you a lot of privacy and a beautiful view. Birds fly abundantly around it. Inside it is cosy and warm. We really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely barn conversion cottage with a view up to the hills. No need to draw the curtains, wake up to stunning view. Family owners + dog, Feather, really nice folks. Even left a jar of doggy treats for our dog. Ideal location to explore The Lakes and the Dales, near a road but so well insulated you could hear nothing. Ate some great food in local inRead morens. Lots of birds and saw a red squirrel fleetingly. Worth the long drive from Dorset. Hide

Had a lovely time at Howgill cottage. The entrance hall would benefit from a radiator. It was very cold in there. The other rooms were lovely and warm with the storage heaters. I loved the added touch of an electric blanket on the beds. We were very comfortable there, it was home from home for us.

Great base for visiting the Lakes, Dales & great walks in the surrounding villages like Appleby, Orton, Ravenstonedale & Kirby Stephen. There's a large garden with a sun house, a kids swing & if lucky - red squirrels. It has all you need for self-catering + hairdryer & Wi-Fi, traditional furniture, keeping with that cottage ambiance that at the endRead more of a busy day hiking or sightseeing makes you feel ahh... I'm home, slippers on, glass of wine & relax on the patio (weather dependent of course) :) Hide
