Holly Cottage is comfortably furnished and equipped with a multifuel burner, making it a superb all-year-round base for a holiday in this beautiful area. A variety of birds and red squirrels are regular garden visitors and there is easy road access to the quieter western lakes and fells; Ennerdale Water is just two miles away and the Cumbrian coast is ten miles. Ennerdale Bridge is just short of a mile away and has a village shop, two pubs and a cafe.
Ennerdale is one of the quietest and most remote valleys in the Lake District. The long, deep lake provides a habitat for several rare species. Tall mountains tower over the lake whilst the head of the valley is forested and home to many species including deer, badgers, rare breed Belted Galloway cattle and red squirrels. Holly Cottage is perfectly located for exploring Ennerdale whilst remaining within easy driving distance of other Lake District highlights including Cockermouth, Loweswater and Buttermere. There are plenty of family friendly attractions including the Lake District Wildlife Park near Bassenthwaite, an aquarium in Maryport, Go Ape! at Whinlatter, and the Ravenglass miniature railway in Eskdale.
