Quaint little cottage, well equipped, quirky and comfortable, Coildnt let dog off lead outside as garden not quite fully enclosed but made good use of community garden opposite the cottage. Would definately recommend

OK, you asked so I’m saying: 1. Shower was not fit for purpose, owner wasn’t very interested when I told him 2. No garden! We were told there was a garden across the road which I presumed belonged to the cottage but it was the village community garden (I have dogs) 3. It appears the back yard is a right of way for the adjacent cottage (we were not informed) and the gate was left open! Again, I have dogs! 4. The ‘front garden seating’ is a stone bench hidden among the undergrowth in the car parking area - as I didn’t bring a machete to cut back the shrubs we couldn’t access this 5. One sofa was broken both ends - we could feel the springs 6. Window lock was broken on bedroom window (just a hole where a lock had been) - window frames were filthy too 7. No mobile coverage (blurb said intermittent) 8. TV reception poor on some channels 9. Heating was set on a timer - did they know when we were hot or cold? 10. Blurb mentioned the pub in the village - this is closed 11. ‘Overlooking a waterfall’ we could hear but not see until we walked up the hill behind the cottage 12. The single socket in double front bedroom faulty
I’m not a nit picking person, I probably wouldn’t have bothered with these items but…the owner’s attitude when I reported the faulty shower was poor, he said ‘I’ve been very patient with you and no one has ever rung me to complain about this’ instead they mentioned it in the guest book! We arrived on a Friday and I didn’t ring him at the weekend but left it until the Monday. He rang me later to say someone had looked at it and it was ‘working as an electric shower should work’. (Running cold, cutting out, then too hot…). He needs a little training in customer service!

A delightful cottage tucked away in a quiet little village on the outskirts of the Lake District. We had a wonderful stay and combined some big hikes up to High Street near Haweswater and Place Fell near Ullswater, with days out kayaking and visiting local landmarks such as Lowther Castle. The landlady’s welcome pack and attention to detail could not be faulted. The main issue was the water pressure in the bathroom. We frequently experienced the shower cutting out with no warning, and no water coming from the taps in the washbasin. However, the excellent internet speed did make up for this to some extent!
