Many of our cottages are traditional old properties, ex-mining cottages, old barns and grand old townhouses. They are full of quirky features that come with age, but these cottages are not always suitable for holidaymakers who use a wheelchair, or those who are less steady on their feet.

The following selection of Lake District holiday cottages all have special features that make them suitable for wheelchair users. You can click on the individual cottage for full details or call us in the office to discuss in more detail.

We define wheelchair-friendly cottages as having:

  • Ground-floor accommodation
  • A wetroom style bathroom, or walk-in shower with grab rails (this will be defined in the cottage description)
  • Level access or an access ramp into the property
  • Level access throughout the property

Where possible, we will specify doorway widths and any other special features such as hard floors and grab rails. We also have a selection of cottages that are suitable for less abled guests who may be able to manage a step into the property and do not need the property to be entirely wheelchair friendly.

You can click on the individual cottage for full details or call us in the office to discuss in more detail.  Less abled cottages may also have a step or two outside the property, for example, a doorstep, or steps into the garden. The cottage may also have a step inside the property, particularly in older cottages that might have been extended.  We always try to ensure our descriptions are as accurate as possible.  If you have specific questions, then please let us know and we can contact the owners for you.
