Hillmore House is a lovely spacious house, which has been lovingly refurbished with an eye to comfort and fine style. It has a rich maritime history and retains a homely charisma and many original features. Set in a quiet street near the centre of Marport, it has views of the harbour from most of the rooms, as well as from the garden. The sunsets here are quite simply, beautiful.
Maryport itself has plenty of places to eat and shop, as well as a variety of attractions – from the Maryport Aquarium to the Maritime Museum as well as the Roman Museum. A cliff walk takes you high above the promenade and to the woods on the side of the cliff by the sea.
The Buttermere valley is 25 minutes' drive away and has three small, pretty lakes (Buttermere, Loweswater and Crummock Water) and a couple of lovely pubs serving fine ales and good food. There are a variety of lakeshore and woodland paths, as well as hikes up onto the higher lakeland fells.
