Situated between Keswick and Penrith, this cosy cottage is an ideal base for exploring the northern Lake District and, in particular, the beautiful Ullswater valley.

Discover this cosy cottage for two welcoming up to one well behaved dog in an elevated position above Troutbeck. Situated between Keswick and Penrith, this is an ideal base for exploring the northern Lake District and in particular the beautiful Ullswater valley.

The cottage is located just off the A66 making it very accessible for visitors new to the area. As well as overlooking the road, it also has a wonderful panorama of fields and fells stretching out for miles around. Ullswater is just 5 miles away opening up some of the most glorious scenery in the Lake District. The walking opportunities here are absolutely stunning with everything from big adventures on the mighty Helvellyn range to low level ambles around Aira Force to tempt you. You can also make the most of the beautiful lake either by hiring a kayak and paddling yourself or catching one of the stately Ullswater Steamers and enjoying the picturesque surroundings on a gentle cruise. Cyclists are particularly well served at Hillcrest with the Coast to Coast cycle way literally passing the front door and a wealth of bridleways and small rural roads to explore under pedal power nearby.

If you'd like to explore local town life you'll find that Keswick, just 8 miles away, makes a great day out. This much-loved Lakeland destination has a wealth of wonderful eateries, outdoor and independent shops, its own art deco cinema and a marvellous theatre offering a great range of plays, music and comedy throughout the year. Why not take a look around one of the stately homes nearby? With both Dalemain and Hutton in the Forest just over 8 miles away, you can lose yourself in their glorious grounds or find out more about their rich histories helping shape this eastern side of the Lake District.

On arrival at the property you are greeted by the lovely patio area, it has a table and chairs for two. You enter via here into the living room. This cosy room has a sofa for two, a wonderful large pointed window bathing the room in light, a TV with Freeview and a wood burner nestled in a lovely fireplace with a wooden mantle. The owner has thoughtfully provided coal and wood for your stay.

Beyond this is the kitchen and dining area. There is a dining table for two, an electric oven and hobs, a microwave and a fridge/freezer. The bedroom has twin beds which are pushed together, a built in wardrobe and a dresser.

The fresh modern shower room has a large curved walk-in shower with a handle for accessibility.

Should you wish to bring bikes or boats there is plenty of lockable storage space at the property, perfect if you'd like to make use of picturesque Ullswater just 5 miles away or the Coast to Coast cycleway which literally passes the front door!

Loved our week in the cottage. Road noise really not a problem .Bus service by the gate. Little or no phone signal. Plenty of parking . Beds very comfortable. Will certainly return .great views from front door .

Had a fantastic week at Hillcrest. The cottage is perfect for two with great accessibility to Keswick , Penrith and all areas in the north Lake District. Ive stayed here in all seasons and been comfortable in the cottage. Lots of off road parking too. Will definitely be coming back again.

My husband and i had a lovely stay at the cottage with our dog. The cottage was a perfect location; main road ten minutes from Penrith & Keswick, 30 mins to Ambleside & 45 to Windermere. Ate at the White Horse Inn almost every night as there was only a microwave and micro hob/oven at the cottage. Garden was not secure so i took the dog outside as nRead moreeeded. Lovely little cottage, ideal for two, the oven is a worktop oven its great for cooking ready meals. Had everything you needed, with some supplys provided such as tea, coffee even had cling film which was handy for pack lunch! Hillcrest is an excellent choice for exploring the Northern Lakes. It's clean and comfortable, well equipped for two. Lob burner was brilliant and the beds are "snuggerly" Dawn, the owner is friendly a d helpful bur not intrusive. Well worth the mony and we would have no hesitation to booking again.

Lovely stay, good location for walking that part of the Lake District. Found the pub nearby friendly and had a tasty meal there. Cottage well equipped and lovely wood burner ensured it was warm and cosy. The A66 is very close, and based on other reviews I took ear plugs and used them each night. Took an extendable lead for my dog luckily, as gardenRead more not secure for dogs. No WiFi, 4G or phone signal either so used pub WiFi or drove to find a signal. Very small but fine if only used as a base . I found the road noise from the busy A66 very annoying day and night . But this could be because I live in a small square of 5 houses and no passing traffic .

No instructions on property on arrival.No guidance on bins/recycling or what to to do on leaving property. Kitchen:needs proper oven and hob and not enough kitchen equipment. Lack of storage for food for self catering! Fridge freezer emits a smell! No bottle holder inside door of fridge. Bathroom:loose towel rail easy to burn on heated towel rail aRead mores so close to toilet. Bedroom: Hard to open door pulls on carpet. We had a nice holiday but due to close proximity of A6 it was very noisy due to traffic and that would be an issue for some people

Its in a fab location with so many fantastic places to travel to that are a short distance away. Dawn is fantastic and very helpful. Spotless and cosy, first impression is 5 Star. The location is ideal mid way between Penrith and Keswick so perfect for the North Lakes. There is a bus stop at the bottom of the garden for both ways, very handy if you don't want to drive every day, looking for car parks and the additional costs involved.
