The only real complaint we had was the oven because it took ages to heat up! Apart from that our stay was fantastic-but a car was needed (which we had).
Might be worth doing cheaper rates for 3 night stays-but could not fault it! Close to Blencathra, Skiddaw and Ullswater, so the location was beautiful. 2 pubs within a mile walk-both of which were lovely.
Would stay again!

Hi Jess, many thanks for your comments. We would have been delighted to help with the oven, had we been aware. As you say, it's such a perfect location with everything right on the doorstep. I can promise you a warm welcome whenever you return!

We enjoyed our stay immensely especially as we had the owner next door, nothing was a bother for her. She prepared a lovely welcoming fire for us , the cottage was comfortable and during storm ciara we felt nice and safe. There was a hotel just over the busy A66 but it was homemade food and for me a good selection of real ales. We didn't eat there but the food looked plentiful, great that you can bring in your furry friend who enjoyed the roaring fire. Hillcrest is situated midway between Penrith and Keswick about a 20 minute drive either way. As I say comfortable, lovely surrounding scenery and adequate fire 2 adults and large dog. Would love to return in the summer as we didn't make it to Aira Force due to it being closed due to flooding issues.

we stumbled across Hillcrest purely by chance, a last minute booking, not really where we usually stay when we go to the Lake District. (at least 2 holidays a year, a week at a time every year for the last 25+ years) we arrived in the evening to a lovely warm cottage (the owner, Dawn, had been in and lit the woodburner. lovely touch) we walked across the road for a meal (Troutbeck Inn) unfortunately the pub is closed Mon/Tues out of season. Although the cottage is directly at the side of the busy A66 the traffic noise really didn't bother us at all. Only a very small kitchen with what is basically a camping stove, 2 hobs and a small grill/oven combined, there is also a microwave and a nice surprise was an almost full size fridge/freezer so because there are no shops nearby you can bring enough food with you to fill the fridge for a week. lovely comfortable sofa in the lounge with a log burner to keep you warm whilst you relax in the evening to watch the TV (also a DVD player) small patio area by the door where we sat out and had breakfast (great weather for January) we returned to the Troutbeck Inn and were not impressed, there is another pub/restaurant less than a mile away if you turn left out of the drive onto the A66 then 1st left of it, The Sportsmans is dog friendly and has a great menu (beware large portion sizes) All in all I think Hillcrest is a cracking little cottage only 10 minutes to Keswick and not much further to Ullswater. Would I go back? Yes, in a flash. Cant really find anything bad to say about the place. And that's unusual, trust me. Thank you Dawn for a lovely relaxing week.

Hello Mark, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It's a lovely cosy cottage, isn't it? You just can't beat a log burner for kicking back and relaxing - perfect! It's always a nice treat to eat out on holiday - even better when someone else does the washing up. I'm thrilled you had a great stay and I hope you will come back and visit us very soon.
