Great little cottage with a lovely log burning stove. Very clean and fully equipped. Location just off the A66 on between Penrith and Keswick. Lovely pub close by called the Sportsman Inn that serves delicious food. No local shops nearby so need to bring everything you need with you are buy it in Keswick. Would definately return to this lovely cottage

Hello, Thank you for your lovely feedback. It's a super cosy cottage isn't it? The log burning stove is such a lovely touch. Sounds like you enjoyed some delicious pub grub - it's always a bonus when someone else does the washing up! I hope you will plan a return visit very soon.

Booked a week but unfortunately could only tolerate 4 nights due to (mainly) a damp/musty smell in the bedroom and also certain noises: mainly the traffic noise, which I would describe as incessant (definitely the worst I have heard when living/staying anywhere) & it also continued throughout the night at a reduced rate of just under 1 vehicle per minute (so leaving windows open at night, for ventilation, was not an option) also, during the night, the fuse-board would start buzzing and the water pump would suddenly and sporadically come on and off again. Further: the 2-ring cooker was too small and (extremely) slow for a weeks stay; the place to hang clothes in the bedroom was in the fuse cupboard, which is so small you cannot then shut the door if clothes were hung up; there was no extractor fan for the kitchen area, so make sure you shut the bedroom door if cooking and open the back door to ventilate; there was an ex. fan in the bathroom but it didn't work; sadly, when sitting at the table, there are no windows to look out of for a view! On the positive, the multi-fuel fire was good and the Troutbeck Inn do some excellent food. We did invite the owner to offer some compensation, but she declined.

Hello Stephen, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review from Hillcrest, I am sorry that the cottage was not all that you expected it to be and that you encountered some issues during your stay. I do mention on the website the proximity of the cottage to the road and you can also see this on the map via the location section. I can see that you have already raised your feedback with the owner and I will also liaise with her about this, so that she can take this on board. I am sorry to hear that you decided to cut your stay short, but do hope you enjoyed your time in the Lakes despite this. I hope you are able to return to the area in the future.

We enjoyed our stay in Hillcrest. It was clean and location was good halfway between Keswick and Ullswater. The only downside for us was there was no WiFi.
