Highgate Cottage enjoys an enviable position in Watermillock. Overlooking Ullswater and with the living space located upstairs, there will be plenty of opportunity to enjoy the beautiful views whilst you relax and unwind.  Recently renovated by its current owners, this immaculate cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly want to make the most of your holiday. The spacious rooms include double and twin bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, and a light bright living/dining room with feature fireplace plus two large windows from which to admire the view.  You have full access to the peaceful, shared garden with grass and seating areas, all of which again enjoy views to the lake.

Watermillock is a small, scattered rural village to the north of Ullswater. Quiet and tucked away yet within easy reach of all the local attractions, it is ideally located for exploring the northern Lake District.  Walk from the door along rural lanes linking to footpaths up Little Mell Fell or across Swinburns Park to Gowbarrow Fell and Aira Force.  Ten minutes drive away is the attractive riverside village of Pooley Bridge, with a good range of places to eat, gift shops and a village store for filling up and stocking up!  For serious walkers, all the north eastern fells are on your doorstep: Place Fell, High Street, Helvellyn, Blencathra – the choice is yours.

The Ullswater area is easily accessed from the M6 yet is worlds away from the bustle of everyday life. Explore the quiet lesser known reaches of the High Street and Helvellyn ridges or visit the bustling towns of Keswick and Penrith. The good transport links mean that Carlisle, the Eden Valley, Howgill fells and the border areas around Hadrians Wall can be within your sights. The historic properties of Dalemain, Hutton in the Forest and Lowther Castle are a short distance away, all of which have lovely tearooms for treating yourself too, or try the delicious Jersey ice cream at Abbott Lodge.

Whether you prefer to tick off some Wainwrights, take the tourist trail, soak up some history or find quiet rural escapes, this is an ideal and beautiful location to start from.
