Newby is a picture-perfect English country hamlet complete with an iconic red telephone box standing at its centre and lush green farmland stretching out in every direction. When you experience the relaxed pace of life here, you'll be forgiven for forgetting you're only a 10-minute drive from the M6 motorway. Located just 8 miles from the romantic Lowther Castle and Estate, 9 miles from the lively market town of Penrith and 13 miles from the peaceful reservoir of Haweswater, Higher Barn is the perfect base for exploring the area. Within walking distance of the property is The Crown Inn at Morland, serving real ales and bar meals in a traditional pub setting. Travel just a little further and The Strickland Arms at Great Strickland offers an extensive menu and a warm welcome. And if you've got the urge for a delicious coffee and cake, then be sure not to miss The Mill Yard Cafe in Morland, there's even a lovely outdoor seating area for making the most of those sunny days. Closer to home, the owners are delighted to offer a range of homemade frozen meals to stock your freezer. They can also arrange afternoon tea in the grounds or a picnic for a day out.
The Eden Valley is a haven for walkers and cyclists, offering gentle strolls for families and longer adventures for those looking for a challenge. The valley is cushioned comfortably in between the Yorkshire Dales, the Pennines and the Lake District National Park, meaning the choice of days out is endless. Ullswater, the County's second largest lake, is a mere half-hour drive from the property and offers a range of watersports, as well as more sedate leisure cruises aboard Ullswater 'Steamers'. The market towns of Penrith and Kendal offer much to explore and great independent shops, and within an hour's drive from Higher Barn, you can reach 'The Great Border City' of Carlisle, steeped in Roman history and housing an impressive museum and gallery which tells the story of its remarkable past.
