Braithwaite is a popular village blessed by being at the foot of the Newlands Valley, on the edge of Whinlatter Forest Park and close to the shores of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake. There's a wealth of walking right from the door whether it's soaring mountain peaks or gentle riverside strolls that interest you. The village itself boasts two pubs and two restaurants serving good food and local real ales In fact, guests at Highbridge Cottage have the Ivy House, the Coledale Inn and the Royal Oak right on the doorstep. There's also a much-loved shop that is a hub for village life just a short stroll away. Whinlatter Forest is an absolute must for visitors with miles of cycling and walking tracks, an excellent cafe, imaginative playpark and a high ropes course where you can test your adventurous side high up in the forest canopy.
