High House is one of our NEW COTTAGES!

Dating from the mid-19th century, High House is an impressive detached property. Sleeping up to 8 people in 4 lovely bedrooms, High House has plenty of room for families and groups of friends to holiday together in beautiful surroundings. Sitting in over an acre of grounds, the house has plenty of parking and a fantastic large garden bordered by wilder areas that are a haven for wildlife.

Located in the peaceful hamlet of Thackthwaite, High House is surrounded by wonderful countryside. Explore country roads and local footpaths from the door. Hike up nearby Wainwright's Little Mell Fell and Great Mell Fell - the stunning views from the top are certainly worth the climb! For a longer walk, follow The Old Coach Road from the neighbouring village of Matterdale to beautiful St Johns in the Vale. With magnificent Ullswater less than a 15 minute drive away, why not enjoy a lakeside picnic? Or hitch a ride on the popular “steamer” to take in the water from a different perspective. Though Thackthwaite itself doesn’t have a pub, there are plenty to choose from in the nearby villages, perfect for refuelling after a day out and about.

The bustling market town of Keswick is a 20 minute drive away and has plenty to entertain everyone. Children will love the indoor climbing wall at Kong Adventure, whilst culture vultures can visit Keswick Museum and Art Gallery to learn all about the local history of the area. Indulge in a spot of retail therapy or enjoy an evening out at the renowned Theatre by the Lake. The beautiful South Lakes are also within easy reach from High House; stock up on the eponymous gingerbread at Grasmere, enjoy a cruise around Lake Windermere from Bowness, or visit the former home of Beatrix Potter at Hawkshead.
