Attractive stone barn sleeping five guests on the outskirts of Bowness-on-Windermere, an ideal destination for walking, cycling and trying a variety of water sports on lake Windermere.

One of four properties in a small complex created in a fabulous converted traditional stone barn, this cottage provides spacious two-bedroomed accommodation for five people in a quiet rural location just outside Bowness-on-Windermere. Stylish, practical, comfortable and beautifully finished, this property will make a wonderful base from which to explore the area.

The cottage is located in peaceful countryside just a mile outside the centre of Bowness so benefits from quiet surroundings whilst still being within easy reach of all the amenities of Bowness and Windermere. With a good variety of shops, cafes and restaurants and access to the lake shore, popular Bowness is a bustling gateway to Windermere with its many attractions. A regular steamer service operates year-round providing easy and hassle free access around the lake and opportunities for stunning linear lake shore walks too.

It benefits from the lovely rural location with peaceful walks from the door and good access to the local fells. Cyclists have a maze of local quiet lanes to explore and for those wanting more of a challenge there are some tough routes to try too. Mountain bikers can take to the forest tracks at Grizedale Forest on the far side of Windermere or explore the local network of byways and bridleways. Bowness and Windermere are well connected to the rest of the area by boat, bus and car so the whole area is yours to explore. Visit wildlife rich Morecombe Bay, shop in the attractive market town of Kendal and of course the beautiful southern and central Lake District stretches before you with gems to discover around every corner.

Entering into the cottage you come straight into the spacious split-level living dining room. To the right the dining table for six is positioned in front of French doors out to the lawned gardens to the back for lovely peaceful views. The kitchen is to the left but you will be drawn across the wooden floor, past a feature curved bookshelf and up the three steps on the right into the main living area. This lovely double height space is lit by skylights and dual aspect windows with rural views, there are exposed beams in the vaulted ceiling and this bright room has a lovely feel. Take a seat on one of the three armchairs or the two-seater sofa, enjoy the open fire in a slate hearth and relax in this cosy spot. When you get tired of watching the fire, there is a Freeview TV and DVD with a few DVDs to get you started.

The kitchen looks out over the garden and is cleverly designed to make it a pleasure to use. All the usual mod cons are included – washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, electric oven and ceramic hob. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need in smart modern fitted units.

In the corner of the lower part of the open area is a hallway leading past the handy downstairs WC to the stairs, lit by a skylight, carpeted and boasting some lovely local photographs on the walls they lead up to a landing. On the right the family bathroom is spacious, modern and practical but still contains character beams, the bath has a shower over and there is a heated towel radiator.

Opposite the bathroom the flexible triple bedroom is set out as a king size zip and link (which can be made into a twin on request) and a single. Vaulted ceilings with beams make the room feel spacious and it is lit by a large skylight window. A fitted wardrobe, bedside tables and a chest of drawers complete the furniture. At the end of the hallway is the master bedroom. With a double bed and stylish en-suite shower room this is a lovely room to retreat to at the end of the day. Built in bedside tables, exposed beams in the vaulted ceiling, skylight and cute feature window at floor level give this room its own unique character. There is a fitted wardrobe and a chest of drawers for storage and the en-suite with heated towel radiator and tiled floor also has exposed beams.

Outside is a shared lawned garden with seating areas and a BBQ area with rural views. The shared walled parking area is close by with access to a small orchard area for short morning or evening strolls for enjoying the peace and quiet and watching the local wildlife.

For larger parties, this cottage can be booked with three other properties on site, to accommodate 15 people in total.

Lovely cottage, comfortable beds, open fire in spacious lounge, plenty of seating. Good kitchen space which is well equipped. Frying pans could do with replacing. Access is along a very narrow lane with a couple of very sharp bends and not many pull ins. The Tesco delivery man would not risk the bends so parked in the lay-by and brought the crates Read moreup by trolley. Having said that we didnt meet any cars coming the other way all week! Very quiet and good walking from the door. Hide
