Set on the outskirts of Bowness-on-Windermere within easy reach of the iconic lake, this compact yet cosy property is an ideal base for families and small groups.

Bright and full of character this accommodation is located on the first floor within a converted old farm building, in a small complex of four properties created from a traditional Lakeland stone barn at a farm on the outskirts of Bowness-on-Windermere. Accessed via a set of external steep stone steps it sleeps four people in two light bedrooms and has a cosy living/dining area with open fire and beautiful views over the shared gardens to the fields and fells beyond. The rooms all have vaulted ceilings with exposed beams providing plenty of character, light and space. It will draw you in and welcome you home at the end of a busy day. Outside there is a shared garden with lawns and seating areas plus a BBQ area, perfect for long lazy summer evenings.

Located in a rural position amongst woods and fields the property is perfectly located for exploring the local area. Being just a mile outside the centre of Bowness means easy access to all the amenities Bowness and Windermere have to offer but also peace and quiet while you relax and unwind. With a wide variety of shops, cafes and restaurants as well as great access to the lake shore, Bowness is the bustling gateway to Windermere lake and the many attractions surrounding it. A regular steamer service crosses the lake all year round making access to Ambleside, Wray, Lakeside and Brockhole a pleasure as well as providing stunning views on the way.

The property offers picturesque and peaceful walks right from the door as well as having good access by bus from Bowness or by car to more challenging walks over the local fells. Keen cyclists will be spoilt for choice with a variety of local on or off-road routes to try depending on the level of challenge required. The Bowness area is very family friendly with plenty of short low level walks to explore. There is good access to the lake with all sorts of boats available to hire or just spend time on the shore enjoying the views. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet the cast of Beatrix Potter’s books at Beatrix Potter World and not far away Fell Foot Park and Brockhole offer both formal and informal play areas perfect for wearing out the younger members of the family! Bowness and Windermere are well connected to the rest of the area by boat, bus and car so the whole area will open out before you.

Accessed via a flight of external steep stone steps, the front door of the cottage opens into a hallway with laminate floor and coat hooks. The bedrooms and bathroom are either side of the hall which then leads through to the charming living/dining area.

To the left is a light double bedroom with shelves perfectly placed to act as bedside tables and built in storage. The vaulted ceiling has character beams and the view from the window over the dry-stone walls to the countryside and fells beyond is relaxing and tranquil. Across the hall the bunk bedroom also has exposed beams and the window looks out onto trees at the back of the cottage. The bunk beds are full-size so are suitable for adults if required, there is a chest of drawers for storage. Next door to the bunk room you will find a spacious family bathroom. Modern, bright and practical the bath has a shower over and there is a heated towel radiator.

The living/dining area is both bright and cosy, with the dining table on the left enjoying the rural views out of one of the two windows and the sitting area at the other end. The inviting sitting area has a two-seater sofa and two armchairs gathered around a coffee table in front of an open fireplace with slate hearth. An initial basket of logs is provided, so light the fire, take a seat, relax and enjoy the ambiance. If additional entertainment is required there is a Freeview TV and DVD plus a Bluetooth music system. Shelves beside the fireplace offer a selection of books, games and DVD’s for all the family or just enjoy the lovely views across the fields and woods to Brant fell. The vaulted ceiling and lovely old beams give this room lots of character and add to the charm of this beautifully finished little cottage.

Double doors lead into the kitchen from the living area so it can be open plan for sociable mealtimes or closed off if you'd prefer to keep the washing up hidden! The farmhouse-style kitchen has modern fitted units around three sides so everything is close at hand and easy to use. All the usual mod cons are included: washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, fridge with ice box, electric oven, four-slice toaster and ceramic hob. The pretty tiled splashback adds a touch of colour behind the ample worktop space and kitchen is well-equipped with everything you could need.

Outside are shared lawned gardens and a pleasant BBQ area with rural views. The walled car parking area is close by with access to a small informal orchard area for morning or evening strolls to enjoy the peace and quietly watch the local wildlife.

Really good location in the heart of the countryside. Open fire was a nice addition. Shops and pubs only a mile away but very steep if walking. Very comfortable stay.

Lovely base for a week. Comfortable and had all we needed. Welcome pack of tea, coffee, biscuits and milk was a nice surprise. Great location, plenty of footpaths around and only a short walk into Bowness. 3 of our days we left the car and did a day's circular walk from the cottage.
