The Hayloft is a peaceful rural retreat for two people worlds away from the bustle of the tourist trail with beautiful views across fields to the northern fells.  Perfectly combining the feeling of being remote and isolated with the convenience and practicality of being only 10 minutes’ drive from the M6 this compact cottage could not have better location for a relaxing break.  Converted from the hayloft of a former pub the downstairs of the cottage is a cosy living/dining/kitchen whilst upstairs is a characterful and light bedroom with a balcony enjoying fabulous ever-changing views.  The balcony faces west perfect for an evening glass of wine and a sunset perhaps?

The Hayloft is ideally located for peace and relaxation yet is within easy reach of the bustling towns of Penrith, Carlisle and Keswick.  Quiet lanes and lonnings link in with a network of footpaths for local strolls; Greystoke forest is a short walk away and a favourite of the owners. For more challenging walks amongst the lesser known northern fells; starting points for Carrock Fell, High Pike and Bowscale Fell are just a short drive away, as is everyone’s favourite the lovely Blencathra.  Lamonby is a small unspoilt hamlet where the only rush-hour involves cows being brought in for milking, this is real rural Cumbria away from the tourist hotspots. The Dog and Gun pub in Skelton is within walking distance and offers good food  (discounts available for Sally's Cottages' guests), there are no streetlights here though so if you go in the evening don’t forget to take a torch!
With easy access to the M6 and A66 the historic market towns of Keswick and Penrith plus the attractive city of Carlisle are all within half an hours’ drive each providing numerous options for shopping, eating and entertainment.  For soaking up some history in lovely surroundings Hutton in the Forest, Dalemain, Mirehouse and Lowther Castle are a short distance away, offering grand houses and beautiful gardens to explore and of course all have lovely tearooms for a treat afterwards too.  The whole of the northern and north-eastern Lake District is yours to explore as you wish, by car, bike or on foot. For a change of scene; the Eden Valley, Hadrian’s Wall and the Solway Coast are also in easy reach offering wide horizons to explore. So, if you want to be in a romantic retreat away from the rat race yet within easy reach of everything north Cumbria has to offer then end your search here with The Hayloft.
