Hawthorn Cottage is in the stunning village of Braithwaite at the foot of Whinlatter Pass. Braithwaite is a highly popular, friendly village with acclaimed walking routes including the Coledale Horseshoe, Grisedale Pike and Barrow. It is the perfect location to start a number of cycle routes both on road and bridleways including the popular Whinlatter Forest Park. The cottage is situated directly on the B5292 and the walking and cycling are all accessed straight from the cottage.
Hawthorn Cottage is a traditional Lakeland cottage that is over 200 years old and has been sympathetically refurbished for modern living. Many of the original features have been retained including the characterful beams in the sitting room. On the ground floor there is a kitchen, bathroom and open plan living and dining area. There are two bedrooms upstairs, a king and a twin with a pull out bed for a 5th person. The property does not have a garden, but its beautiful location provides plenty of opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. There is a very small private parking area, but we normally recommend parking around the corner next to the school.
Braithwaite is a highly popular location for walkers and cyclists and is served by a regular bus, extending the possibilities for touring and exploring. The market town of Keswick is a five minute drive away. The town has plenty of shops, cafes, pubs and two supermarkets. There is also a cinema and a theatre for something a little different.
The local village shop is the hub of the small community selling local produce, daily essentials and local meats and cheeses. There are two excellent pubs - The Royal Oak and The Coledale Inn both serving good food and drink. You can also enjoy an extra special meal at The Cottage in the Wood on Whinlatter Pass.
