This delightful family retreat is located amongst the stunning landscape of the Borrowdale Valley, an iconic destination for walking and cycling across the varied landscape.

This spacious and welcoming cottage is perfect for a family or group of friends looking to enjoy a holiday in the Lake District National Park. The quaint little village of Seatoller lies at the southern end of Borrowdale, taking you into the heart of the mountains and offering a quiet haven in the Cumbrian Fells. This lush green valley is a tapestry of grassy fields, dry-stone walls and rolling hilltops, with a dramatic backdrop of high mountain peaks all around. If you are looking to enjoy the best of Cumbria's natural environment, you have come to the right place! The whole area is a paradise for walkers and there is something to suit every level of ability. You can walk to the summit of Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, or can enjoy an endless array of low-level walks in the area. For more relaxed days, there are lots of fantastic picnic spots and the beautiful fairy glen waterfalls in the Langstrath Valley that are perfect for a refreshing swim on a sunny day! If you want to enjoy a bit of culture, the bustling market town of Keswick is only 8 miles away and has lots on offer, there is a very reliable bus service which pretty much takes you door to door!

The cottage itself is wonderfully welcoming and has been freshly decorated throughout. The highlight has to be its idyllic location, sat at the end of a little row of white cottages next to its namesake, a beautiful mountain stream that cascades down from the top of Honister Pass. The charm of the surrounding area can be enjoyed from every room, each having a slightly different view. If you decide to head out in the evenings, there are lots of wonderful local pubs dotted all along the Borrowdale Valley, including a bar just 1.5 miles walk away. You can also opt to drive into Keswick, which offers food from all around the world and has a lovely little cinema, as well as a brilliant theatre. You won't be short of things to do!

As you walk into the cottage, you enter into a small entrance way, with handy hooks to hang your coats on the back of the door. Immediately in front of you is the bathroom and the kitchen is to the left, leading through to the living room. The refurbished cottage is bright and welcoming throughout. The ground-floor bathroom has a shower over the bath, WC, sink with mirror, and heated towel rail.

Across the hall is the kitchen/diner, a lovely and bright space with a large sash window that looks up onto a grassy rock-terrace area at the back of the cottage. Decorated in a country cottage style, it's well-equipped with a microwave, oven with electric hob, washing machine, Welsh dresser, and a dining table seating five. It's the perfect place for sociable food prep before you all sit down together to enjoy a tasty meal! There is also a medium-sized fridge/freezer in a small pantry area within the kitchen.

From the kitchen, you walk through to a cosy living room, which has beautiful views of the gill and the mountain tops of Bessy Boot and Glaramara. The living room has a double sofa, two armchairs, open fire under a wonderful stone chimney breast, slate bookshelves with a selection of books, and a small smart TV. There is a set of three tables, for enjoying a cuppa, and a footstool next to the sofa. This is a lovely area in which to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet at the end of each day's adventure.

A wooden door separates the living room from the stairs, which offers a nice division between the downstairs area and the bedrooms upstairs. As you walk up the stairs, you enter into a very comfortable carpeted hallway, which is nice and spacious, with high ceilings and lots of light coming in through a Velux window. The first room you get to is the single room, which has a single bed, a bedside cabinet with lamp, a sink and a set of draws. The room has been tastefully decorated in relaxing floral greens and purples and the window looks across to the terraced area behind the house. There is a small WC next to this and then a twin bedroom. The twin room is a wonderfully bright and tranquil room with two single beds (each with a reading light), a set of draws, and a sink with mirror. Further along the corridor is a small cupboard with space for hanging shirts.

The master bedroom is bright and spacious, with views out of the window that will catch your breath at first sight. Because the cottage sits uphill, you are elevated above the valley and have a sweeping outlook across fields of Herdwick sheep and up to the formidable mountain tops of the valley. The room is stylishly decorated in relaxing green hues and has a double bed with bedside drawers and a lamp on each side, a wooden chair, an armchair, a sink with mirror, chest of drawers, bookshelf of books, and a wardrobe (containing an iron and ironing board). You will find a hairdryer in the bedside drawer.

Outside, a small lockable shed houses a tumble dryer and can also be used for storing bikes (there is space for either one adult bike or a couple of children's bikes). Though there is no garden, the cottage sits on a natural terrace with the gill flowing past, so you can choose to sit on the grass next to the water on a sunny day!

Parking is a massive plus. WiFi is great. Comfy beds. Warm when the storage heaters are on but the bathroom is freezing. The heated towel rail isn't enough. Nothing near to grab essentials so you have to travel. Perfect for walkers and a quiet location.

Value for money. Everything functional. However some small upgrades would go a long way. Both the living room and bedrooms are really nice, however I would suggest this isn't a property for 5 adults, we were 3 adults and it was tight. I would suggest that the 3rd bedroom would be better suited being turned into a shower room. The only real negativeRead more is the bathroom needs an upgrade, and some of the kitchen appliances are approaching needing replacement Again for the price can't complain. Hide

I agree with David (19 Aug) & Robert (17 June). It was turning chilly by the end of the week and although most of the house stayed quite snug, the gap under the back door seemed to funnel the cold straight into the bathroom. But you're heading here for the location aren't you? Great location. No use being too picky about an old house. The bench at Read morethe front caught a bit of morning sun (we were lucky!), we moved it over to block the car in to have a better view. Didn't need the car at all. Hide

Though somewhat austere, it is a great property, well-maintained, and clean, with adequate facilities. Tranquil, with excellent views and amazing fell-walks on your doorstep. Log-fire great with everything [wood, small pieces ad kindling] provided. One caveat: the pictures makes the rooms appear much bigger than they actually are!
