We are into October already and Autumn has most definitely arrived in the Lake District. As Halloween falls during half term there are lots of activities going on near our Lake District Holiday Cottages to keep children amused. Here is a selection of our top tips for Half Term fun:
A Halloween lantern workshop takes place at Brantwood in Coniston where children can make their own paper lantern for Halloween with all materials provided. Kids can then bring their lanterns along for a walk through the gardens and estate, listen to story telling and see the bonfire.
Rheged Centre is a great rainy day and their workshops are very well attended. Three sessions during the day allow kids to make their own Halloween costume, great for parties or for trick or treating. There is also a daily pumpkin carving event with a chef and you get to take your pumpkin home too!
Muncaster Castle is holding ghost tours, fancy dress competitions for witches and frightful monsters and the famous Darkest Muncaster illuminations. I like the sound of the scary maze! Not far from Muncaster Castle is the L’al Ratty, which is running a spooky Halloween ghost train, travelling down the line in darkness with fiendish surprises along the way!
And finally you can catch the Ghostly Galleon, which will be operating on Ullswater. A magician will be on board performing magic tricks and balloon modelling, there is also a café-bar for the adults.
So wherever you are staying across the Lake District, there is something on nearby to tempt you and to entertain your family with. There are still last minute discounts available on many of our family sized holiday cottages in the Lake District.
