Property code: SZ225

Luxurious period property full of elegance and charm. Designed with adults in mind it is perfect for a couples’ retreat, with highlights such as Derwentwater, the Borrowdale Valley and Whinlatter Forest at your fingertips.

This property has been recently renovated to a high standard making it a cottage the discerning visitor will want to visit Again and Again. A stylish Victorian townhouse ideally situated just a 5-minute walk from the centre of Keswick, it is spacious, light and contemporary and sleeps up to four adults in two king-size bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room. The owners have thought of everything for your Lake District holiday comfort. Furnishings, colour schemes and fabrics throughout are high quality and carefully chosen to complement the style of the property. There is double glazing throughout, gas central heating, underfloor heating to the kitchen and dining room a wood burner and Wi-Fi.

Keswick is a jewel in the crown of the Lake District National Park, situated on picturesque Derwentwater and surrounded by stunning fell views to all sides. It's known as the adventure capital of England and it's easy to see why as you can try your hand at almost any outdoor activity with a wealth of instructors on hand to help you find your wild side. If a gentler time in the great outdoors is more to your taste then there is a huge choice of things to do from easy low level walks and cycle rides to catching the lovely Derwentwater launch and soaking up the stunning scenery from the water.

The town offers plenty in the way of cultural delights too, with its own art deco cinema showing mainstream and independent films and the beautifully situated Theatre By The Lake offering a varied programme of drama, comedy and music throughout the year. The house is conveniently close to all the town's amenities including a vast array of eateries, shops and galleries.

The house is accessible from both the front and the rear. The front entrance opens into a vestibule with plenty of hooks for coats and space for shoes (if you've been out on the fells, please use the rear entrance, where there is storage for muddy gear in the utility/boot room). The contemporary floor tiles in the hallway add a modern twist to this Victorian townhouse and complement the original features - ceiling roses, cornices, sash windows and so on - that have been lovingly restored by the owners.

Like the rest of the house, the high ceilings of the living room make for a light and airy feel. Comfortable seating in the form of two three-seater sofas and an armchair in muted tones are set off by accents of bright green. A wood burner, large Smart TV (internet enabled with Netflix, Amazon Prime and other Apps), DVD and large DVD collection, wireless Bluetooth speaker, free Wi-Fi and telephone for incoming calls and free local calls make this cottage a home from home.

The theme of stylish comfort is continued as you walk through the house, with underfloor heating in the kitchen and adjoining dining area. The kitchen is striking in its sleek modernity, with glossy white cupboards and a large breakfast bar attended by four neat stools. The kitchen has just about everything that any discerning adults could require for hosting a small dinner party, equipped with various sizes of pots, pans, baking dishes, soup/smoothie jug blender, electric handheld chopper/whisk/blender, a cafetiere, Nespresso coffee machine with milk frother, serving dishes, slate cheeseboard and, of course, Champagne flutes and an ice bucket. There are two ovens (one fan-assisted and the other a conventional oven and grill), a combination microwave and grill, as well as a Neff five-ring gas hob. A tall fridge/freezer and a dishwasher complete the kitchen facilities. The dining area adjoins the kitchen in an 'L-shape' and seats up to four people.

Open the door in the dining area and you'll find the utility/boot room and separate WC. The washing machine and tumble dryer is stored here, as well as access to the courtyard.

The courtyard is paved and contains a large patio table placed underneath the kitchen window, so that guests can catch the evening summer sun while still chatting with the cook in the kitchen. Bikes can be stored in the courtyard (but are done so at the owners' risk). Parking is usually available on the road outside the property or in the neighbouring roads.

Upstairs are two lovely airy bedrooms, each featuring a king-size bed adorned with down duvets and pillows, Egyptian cotton bed linen and pocket-sprung mattresses. If any of the guests are allergic to feathers, there is a synthetic duvet and pillows in one of the wardrobes. Tall double wardrobes and chests of drawers with plenty of space for clothing, blackout Roman blinds and upholstered bedroom ottomans also feature. Both bedrooms are also equipped with a hairdryer. The front master bedroom has an en-suite shower room with WC, heated towel rail and walk-in rainfall shower head with a second, adjustable shower head for that touch of added luxury. The walk-in rainfall and adjustable shower heads are replicated in the separate family bathroom, which also includes a luxury, free-standing bath, WC and heated towel rail.

There are more bedrooms on the second floor, but these are restricted to use by the cottage owners.
