General Description

Gill Bank is a lovely property located in the popular, yet peaceful, village of Caldbeck in the northern Lake District. Gill Beck is a traditional build which benefits from modern standards of insulation and design with high ceilings, spacious rooms and clean lines fitting seamlessly with its traditional neighbours. The house has light bright rooms with a homely feel and all the main living rooms and bedrooms have lovely views to the front over the stream or to the back over the pretty garden and field beyond. Sleeping 5 people in 3 bedrooms, it is ideal for families or for couples travelling together and makes a perfect base for exploring the northern Lake District from Penrith to Keswick and Cockermouth. Carlisle, the Solway coast, Hadrian’s Wall and the Eden Valley are also within easy reach.

The front door of the house leads into a traditional porch, the wall to-wall size coir mat makes it practical for dealing with muddy boots after a walk. A second door leads into the spacious main hallway, off which are the main downstairs rooms and the stairs. A window to the front allows light into this very practical space with hooks for hanging coats and a bookshelf complete with a range of books for quiet evenings on the sofa.

To the right of the hall is the large dual aspect living room with comfy two-seat sofa and three chairs gathered around a coffee table in front of the flame effect electric fire and the Freeview TV. For warm summer days, patio doors open onto the back garden allowing easy access in and out or just for enjoying the sound of bird song and the smell of fresh Lakeland air from the comfort of the sofa. A reclaimed beam adds a bit of character to this spacious room and the lovely selection of pictures on the wall, ornaments in the corner cabinet and large fireplace help it to feel cosy and homely. For evenings in, there is a TV with DVD player (a selection of DVDs are provided) and free Wifi. The cupboard in the bureau contains a wide selection of games, jigsaws, children's books and toys for days in; whilst on the table by the door are a variety of books about local walks, together with guides, reference books and maps for days out.

Back into the hall and round to the right is a well equipped and spacious kitchen with dining table seating up to 6 people. A washing machine, microwave, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment, radio/cd player, electric hob and double oven complete the set of essential appliances and a one and a half sink is always useful. The well stocked cupboards provide plenty of pots, pans and crockery for meals in, or there is always the pub if you want a night off! The window overlooks the garden allowing in plenty of light, whilst double glazing keeps it cosy. Off the back of the kitchen is a handy downstairs cloakroom with WC and basin and a back door leads out into the garden.

Off the central hall the stairs lead up to a spacious and light landing area with a side window looking over neighbouring rooftops and fields. Just peeking out over the trees you can see the summit of High Pike beckoning you to head out onto the fells. A stair-gate is provided at the top of the stairs, and a storage heater ensures the house is kept cosy even when the central heating is not on.

Off the landing are 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. All of the bedrooms have lovely views and you have the choice of a super king, a twin or a single. The bathroom has been refurbished in modern, pristine white making it lovely and bright. A lino floor and shower over the bath mean it is practical, whilst the large bathtub itself is ideal for a long hot soak and the heated towel rail means snug warm towels too. A non-slip bath mat is provided for the safety of guests.

Adjacent to the bathroom is the well designed pretty twin room, which has views over the garden to the field beyond. This is a lovely cosy room yet has ample space for the 2 beds with bedside tables, fitted cupboard with hanging space and shelves, together with two chairs.

The spacious master bedroom has a super king-size bed. A large window gives views over the beck to the village and the woods beyond, perfect for savouring a cup of tea in bed whilst getting inspiration for the day from the Lakeland view paintings on the walls! A wardrobe and chest of drawers provide storage and there are also bedside tables and two chairs.

The third bedroom is a single room with chest of drawers and chair. This room enjoys the same view as the master over the beck to the village and wooded hil beyond.

The back door in the kitchen leads out into an enclosed multi level, west-facing garden, which is surrounded by dry stone walls. Full of colour in the spring and summer, this compact garden has real character with plenty of local stone and provides a paved area behind the house plus a raised paved seating area with a picnic bench (up 3 steps) for dining al fresco. There is also a very handy washing line. In the garage, there are deck chairs to bring out for enjoying peaceful sunny afternoons.
