Gill Beck is a spacious property, ideally situated in a prime position right in the heart of the beautiful north Lake District village of Caldbeck. As you would expect from a holiday home regularly used by the owners’ family, everything you could need has been provided in this comfortable welcoming house. Good-sized, light, bright rooms, a well equipped kitchen, pretty cottage garden and views over the beck, fields and village all combine to make this a perfect base for either a family or for couples travelling together. Its location in the centre of the village means that the popular local pub and village shop are just across the road and footpaths radiate off in all directions offering lovely walks for all to explore.

Caldbeck is an unspoilt village tucked away in a green valley surrounded by moorland. It has a historic church, a large duck pond on the Village Green and a beautiful section of Cald Beck running though its centre. There is a village shop for necessities as well as the pub, several cafes and craft shops. It provides a sought after mix of being a peaceful location yet has amenities on the doorstep and all within easy travelling distance of numerous local attractions. Walking is available straight from your door. Try a gentle walk along the river to neighbouring Hesket Newmarket in order to sample the locally brewed beers at the Old Crown pub or get out on the fells with the more challenging High Pike and Carrock Fell.

This area of the northern Lake District is known as Back O’ Skiddaw and is quieter than the tourist hotspots of Keswick and Ambleside, making for peaceful walks amongst rolling fells or less used paths up the ever-popular Skiddaw and Blencathra. All the starting points for walks within Wainwright’s Northern Fells book can be reached within a 30 minute drive. If you prefer something a little less active, then you are also around half an hour from the attractive market towns of Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith plus the historic city of Carlisle, all of which are worth a visit.  The historic properties of Hutton in the Forest, Mirehouse, Dalemain and Lowther Castle are a similarly short distance away, all of which have lovely tearooms for treating yourself too! The Eden Valley, Hadrian’s Wall and the Solway Coast are within easy reach giving you wide horizons to explore.

If you want to be in a roomy yet homely property in a prime village location within easy reach of all of the northern Lake District and Cumbria, then you will not regret choosing Gill Beck for your holiday.
