Gate cottage is like going back in time to visit your favourite Granny. It's very well equipped, homely, lovely comfy beds and sofa's; we thought it was charming and very much enjoyed our stay. Lots of attention to detail; a welcome basket of goodies, lovely little garden and a great bird table just in front of the kitchen window which was a flurry of activity the whole time. It is very well located for easy walking access onto the northern fells and the local pub (within very convenient staggering distance) serves great food and beer (it's recently changed hands). If you want a super modern 5 star stay, maybe Gate Cottage isn't for you, and although there is scope for some updating and improvement, it really is a lovely place to stay in a very lovely part of the world.

Hello Julia, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It's a real cosy cottage isn't it? How wonderful to receive a welcome basket full of delicious goodies. You couldn't have picked a better location for exploring the Lakes and getting out and about on some great walks. The pub grub and beer sound marvellous and well deserved after a day on the fells! I'm thrilled you had a really great stay and I hope you will plan a return visit to the beautiful Lakes very soon.

Very old cottage. Not modern at all but that adds to its charm. Nice garden. Fab local pub The Mill Inn serving great food. Would go there again.

It’s an interesting one, this, and not easy to assign numerical values to the series of judgements Reevoo asks for before you get to this section. Imagine your beloved Mum, who lived in the same old cottage for much of her life, has died. You spent lots of holidays there as a child. She kept all your old games and books. You love the place and want to keep being able to go back yourself. How to be able to afford it? I know, let’s turn it into a cottage that can be let to other people, so they can share its cosy delights when we are not there. We can keep the furniture, worn but comfortable, the old but efficient storage heaters, the ivory handled kitchen knives, but add modern comforts like an excellent TV set up, a good kettle and toaster...You get the general impression? We loved it and so did our dog, but if slick modern living is what you are after, it’s not for you. Westrigg Cottage, Grange, has a very similar vibe. Try that one next if you like this.
