This spectacular property is perfect for family or friends’ reunions, where everyone will be able to find their favourite spot. With direct access to Bassenthwaite Lake, it’s a serene place for all.

Providing self-catering accommodation for ten people in the quiet environs of Thornthwaite near Keswick and set amidst private landscaped gardens, this cottage is just a short walk from the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. The owners have worked hard to create a unique and spacious living space filled with light and some lovely distinctive features. The attention to detail throughout is exceptional, from the stylish bathrooms to the bespoke kitchen.

Thornthwaite is at the foot of Whinlatter Forest where there are mountain bike trails, family bike rides and walks, a Go Ape course and a visitor centre with cafe. Thornthwaite also boasts an art gallery with its own tearoom. In nearby Braithwaite there are three excellent pubs, or for a special treat, venture up the Whinlatter Pass to the Cottage in the Wood, a superb restaurant with unbeatable views of Skiddaw. Keswick is only 4 miles away and Cockermouth is 8 miles away. Both are pleasant market towns with independent shops, good pubs, restaurants and bars. Keswick has its own art deco cinema and the award-winning Theatre by the Lake.

Entering the cottage you come through to the dining room which comfortably sits ten people around a large table. From here you move through to the large kitchen. This space is great for cooking and entertaining with lots of worktop space and stylish fittings. The kitchen is well-equipped with dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge/freezer, and plenty of storage.

Also from the kitchen is the sitting room, a wonderful space with double patio doors and a glazed roof allowing lovely and unique views of Whinlatter fells and bringing the outside in. The room seats ten in luxury around the widescreen TV and DVD. There are two downstairs bedrooms which are accessed via a corridor off the sitting room. There is one queen-sized bedroom and a double bedroom, both of which share a large bathroom with a bath, separate shower enclosure, WC.

The first floor is reached via stairs from the kitchen. The king-size master bedroom has a wonderful en-suite shower room and WC. There are a further two twin bedrooms upstairs which share a shower room with WC.

The spacious garden has fabulous views of the fells with a patio area for sitting out. The area put to lawn has been beautifully sculptured and there is also a more wild area with some beautiful old oak trees. From here there is a path leading to Bassenthwaite Lake through the ancient Powterhow Wood.

Very spacious property for 10 guests with ample space for dining and in the lounge area. Great heating system too, the house was never cold. Its great value for money but needs TLC. Would suggest a good walkthrough and test. Would also recommend a hose pipe outside. Its dog friendly so needed for cleaning the dogs feet. Garden not enclosed as stated on website but great dog walks around the cottage. Heating was great even in freezing temps. Needs some maintenance.

We have just returned from a week at Garden Cottage and were lucky enough to have temperatures of over 28 degrees all week! The cottage is in a lovely position and very private. It is spacious and there was more than enough room for the 6 of us. The property does feel a little tired though and in need of some TLC. But the main areas were clean. We had a lovely week overall in the cottage with our family of 10. The cottage is in a beautiful location with access to the lake through the woods. We had days out to Bassenthwaite, Keswick, Buttermere and Whinlatter Forest. There is plenty of space for everyone in the cottage and the children enjoyed playing in the big lounge and garden. The house is well located for access to the Lakes and mountains (car or bus) and can comfortably absorb an extended family. Our biggest problem was the failure of the wifi on two successive nights. Whilst the agents were helpful in sorting this, the fact that the router is in another property means guests cannot reset it. The garden could do with aRead more bit of tlc and the treated spring water supply and pressure won't be to everyone's taste, but overall this is a good base for a large family group. Hide

Lovely location, can walk to the lake from the house. Kitchen well equipped and very spacious house, so great for large groups. More attention to cleaning needed as quite dusty and several cobwebs. Property looks a little tired with some repairs needed - kitchen tap is very wobbly.
