Property code: SZ189

The perfect destination for family and friends, this beautiful home sleeps up to nine and has large rooms and fantastic outdoor space with impressive views.

Offering some of the most stunning views in the country, this fabulous self-catering cottage is situated in the small village of Patterdale. It has been in the same family for over 60 years and is a much-loved family home. Located on a private lane with no passing traffic, it is perched high on the foot of Place Fell and is situated on the coast-to-coast path, looking onto St Sunday Crag and the Fairfield Horseshoe fells beyond picturesque grazing pastures. This is unrivalled walking country with the Helvellyn Range, High Street and many other thrilling walks straight from the door. It is also the only house in Patterdale from which you can see the summit of Helvellyn whilst sitting down inside - perfect for those who prefer to admire such stunning views from a comfortable seat! The cottage sleeps up to nine guests across four bedrooms. Up to two dogs are also allowed, making it equally ideal for a large family or a group of friends and their pets.

In Patterdale, there are easy, low-level walks along the tranquil shores of Brotherswater. The shores of Ullswater are a 15-minute walk away on a low level path along the side of Place Fell. Ullswater is the second largest of the Lakeland lakes and, many think, the loveliest. All manner of boats can be hired from Glenridding to enjoy on the majestic water. Alternatively, you can swim, picnic, walk, fish (a permit will be required) or take a trip on an Ullswater 'Steamer'.

Accessed via steps or a steep slope, there is a front and back entrance to this cottage and the first time guests enter will be via the back door into the kitchen. Greeted by a welcome pack full of local produce, this large kitchen has been refurbished in a sensitive, modern style and is generously equipped. A split, two-level electric oven and hob sits alongside a microwave, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, blender and toaster. A large utility cupboard contains a useful washing machine and tumble dryer. Two dining tables can be used separately or pushed together, either next to the wood burner or under the large window overlooking St Sunday Crag. Two window seats are located in the kitchen as well to make the most of the stunning views on offer.

The living room is situated at the front of the cottage and takes in the double aspect views of St Sunday Crag, the Fairfield Horseshoe, Gavel Pike and Patterdale Common to the front and Hartsop and up the scenic Kirkstone Pass to the side; the summit of Helvellyn can even be seen from the comfort of the cottage. Hours can be pleasurably whiled away watching the wildlife in the garden from the window seats, which includes red squirrels, woodpeckers, rabbits and an array of bird life. Another wood burner warms guests, who can read the books provided or watch TV in any of the two three-seater sofas or two armchairs. The ground floor accommodation is completed with a double bedroom - with double aspect views to the side (Hartsop) and rear (Place Fell) - and a bathroom, which includes an shower over the bath and a separate WC.

The first floor houses three bedrooms and two bathrooms (one en-suite). The king-size master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom (with a shower over the bath and WC), plentiful storage and views to the side of Place Fell towards Glenridding. A twin has views to the front and Hartsop to the side, while the fourth room contains two bunk beds with views to the rear - please note, the top bunk does have limited head height and is more suited for a child. The family bathroom on this floor has an electric shower over the bath.

The unenclosed sloping garden wraps around the cottage and features a picnic table. An outbuilding makes for a useful boot or drying room for wet and muddy gear. When driving to the cottage, cars can either be parked on the private layby just before the cottage or in the large open garage just beyond the property. There is space for parking three cars at the garage (two inside the garage and one across the back of the parked cars). There is also a small layby on the left hand side before you reach the cottage; there is space for two guest cars in this layby - please note, enough space needs to be left for a third car to be parked here (this comes with the annexe that isn't included with the cottage).

  • 4 bedrooms – 1 double, 1 king-size, 1 twin, 1 bunk room with additional single bed
  • Sleeps 7 + 2 children - bunk beds in the children's room have restricted head height
  • 3 bathrooms – 2 bathrooms with shower over bath and 1 en-suite bathroom with shower over and WC

This holiday will stay with me for the rest of my life, the house was wonderful , very homely and had everything youd need and the view is absolutely stunning, we will definitely be going back. There are so many walks that you can take from the house itself, some more strenuous than others. The locals couldnt have made us more welcome , from the faRead morermer who runs the wool shop , the ladies in the shops in Patterdale and the guys on the steamers. An absolutely wonderful holiday. Fellgarth is in a beautiful location with amazing views and walks straight from the door. The cottage was very comfortable and the kitchen very well-equipped. The log fires were welcome at the end of the day, and it's very dog-friendly. We loved feeling remote but having local amenities so close. Fellgarth was almost perfect! Amazing location with walking from the door. The cottage was warm, cozy, well equipped in the kitchen and has the most stunning views across to Helvellyn. The only two things we suggest as constructive criticisms: providing towels for guests should be a given and providing access to enough logs and kindling for the wooRead mored burners for a week. Otherwise difficult to find fault and wed love to stay again! Hide

Wonderful location and the views from every window are stunning. Lovely walks from the front door. Well equipped kitchen and comfy beds, couldnt ask for more. And for electric car owners super convenient car charger took all the stress out of having to think about where to charge.

An absolute gem of a property if you enjoy long walks and trying to avoid using your car. The views, red squirrel watching and location are killer and offset some of the tiredness around the edges, that are common place for a well loved family holiday home such as this. We loved our stay and will be trying to come back soon

This cottage is a real gem, the location and views were incredible. We loved the history and artwork/ photos presumably by owners, we found it very homely. We saw the red squirrel in its feeder and also loads of little birds. It had the best equipped kitchen we have ever seen in a holiday let and the log burners were appreciated as the weather was Read morevery cold. We didnt mind all the steps up to the property but I imagine some might be put off by this and it would be tricky if limited in mobility Hide

Super place in fabulous location. The views are astounding. The cottage is warm and cosy especially with the log burners. Great booklet about the cottage and the history. We loved exploring the area - walks directly from the cottage and day trip on the ferry over to Pooley Bridge. Thank you!

Lovely position for an old cottage that has been updated for comfort. Perfect views and surrounded by countryside with badgers and red squirrels. We had a great week and cosy evenings in front of the woodburning stove. Comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. Slightly saggy sofas but a small point!
