Leadgate is a small, peaceful hamlet enjoying a rural location not far from the remote village of Alston. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, there's plenty to explore straight from the front door so pack a picnic and head out to see what you can find. The remains of Whitely Castle, once a Roman Fort, can be found just a stone's throw from the cottage and is sure to ignite your curiosity into this area's interesting heritage. The famous Hadrian's Wall is a short drive away, walk part of the wall yourselves or head to one of the many museums on offer to learn even more. The South Tynedale Railway, the highest narrow-gauge railway in England, starts at Alston and is sure to delight children and adults alike.
If you fancy heading slightly further afield, then a day trip into the Lake District National Park is a must. Head to Keswick, the adventure capital of the North Lakes, for a fun-filled day out.
