We are a group of walkers and this is our second year in a row booking this cottage in January. It is a great location for both high and low level walks. There are two pubs with food within a few minutes walk in Boot and a third The Woolpack a pleasant half hour walk away along a beautiful riverside track but will pick up and drop off in minibus if requested. Lots of bedrooms in Esk View, 2 of which ensuite. We had an issue with lack of hot water for 2 days but once reported this was resolved apparently remotely.
Although the info pack on arrival mentions provision of basics ie tea/coffee there was nothing other than salt and cider vinegar. I have rented many other cottages and usually there is some sort of welcome pack ie tea , coffee, milk which would have been nice. So advice to other renters would be to bring everything including cooking oil, salt, pepper esp if you intend to do any sort of catering. The nearest shop is some distance away. Also tea towels and bin bags as they only provide 2.
The house is large and during a very wet January week, we had wet weather gear draped over every available radiator as the conservatory does not afford any drying. A little blow heater and hangers in the little porch at the end of the hall would be useful. However there are 2 real fires which were very comforting after many hours in the rain.
I can't fault Sally Cottages staff who were always lovely to deal with

Esk View is a fantastic house in a superb location. We have holidayed many times here over the years under previous ownership & were disappointed to find the house now somewhat tired & shabby. We can make allowances for the fact that dogs are now allowed, but that shouldn't affect such things as the cleanliness of the cooker, cutlery & crockery. Lamp shades literally disintegrating & a missing wardrobe completely in one of the en-suite rooms & some mattresses were definately past their best!! This is such a shame because all of these issues could be remedied quite easily with a little bit of TLC as it is mainly superficial/cosmetic. The biggest disappointment for us was the garden which is advertised as enclosed. We appreciate that the back of the garden which has been opened up is unfenced, which we expected but the patio area around the house has a broken/missing gate so even this small area was not secure & It is definitely not enclosed & therefor we couldn't just let the dogs out. On a positive note, the staff at Sally's cottages were very polite, efficient & helpful in sorting some other minor issues promptly. Despite this, we had a lovely time,it was enjoyed by all & we will all take away some very special memories from Esk View.

Hi Tracey, Esk View is in a stunning place isn't it? It is so lovely to hear that you have visited throughout the years, I bet you have some very special family memories there! I am sorry to hear that you had some trouble with some aspects of the cottage, I will certainly pass this back to the owner and will look into getting them sorted. I will also look into the current situation with the garden, of course we want your furry friends to enjoy their holiday at Esk View too! I am delighted to hear that that you enjoyed your stay and I hope that we can welcome you back soon!

Great location. There were however some items in the kitchen that did not work properly and some of the crockery, cutlery etc needed re washing before we could use it. The kitchen could do with a deep clean. The rest of the property was comfortable for a large group like us.
