Stayed here 3 times now and it’s location is great. Just out of town so a nice mile walk and great for runs and climbs. The cottage needs some work in the bathroom with a more powerful extractor fan to try and stop the damp and a good paint. If you are relying on WiFi you will be fine unless both houses are occupied then you will struggle. The bird life just in the courtyard is fantastic, we got bird food from the shops to keep it all topped up. It would be lovely if there was a real fire or a wood burner.

Hello Alison - ooh I am delighted to welcome you back to Deer Close Cottage! It's so lovely to hear that you are on your third trip! Thank you for your feedback - the owner has already removed the mould in the bathroom and will be repainting the area later this month, as well as replacing the extractor fan with a more powerful model. We do appreciate that the Borrowdale Valley isn't the best for Wi-Fi, but are hopeful of improvements in the near future. I am happy that you were able to enjoy the beautiful wildlife and local routes for running and climbing. I hope you are able to return to the Lake District for your next trip very soon!

The cottage is a gorgeous holiday retreat for two people, particularly if they love the fells of the Northern Lakes. The views from almost every window of the cottage are spectacular and the setting is, despite being close to the main Borrowdale Valley road, quiet and tranquil. It is just a short, flat walk to the lakeside at Derwent Water and, from there, you can take an easily accessible route into Keswick via the viewpoint of Friar's Crag.

Superb place for two to stay, we only used our car one day to get to the start of Helvellyn , otherwise we walked every day from the cottage. Easy walk into Keswick. We had rain every day bar one. It was warm ,quiet, comfy bed, well equipped kitchen and lovely views to the surrounding countryside too. We hope to return when the days are longer.
