Daweswood is a unique, tastefully presented property full of delightful details to discover. It's an old building so expect a few creaks and quirks. It is secluded in its own densely wooded grounds, within easy walking distance of Patterdale shop & Pub and comfortable walk to Glenridding. It's a beautiful house to share for a holiday. (The only things we could suggest for improvement would be to excavate a larger or more easily accessed entrance for stopping your car at the bottom of the drive and to thin a few of the more invasive conifers closest to the property, allowing more light/views and space for the feature trees). Overall it's an excellent property and we would happily stay there again.

We enjoyed a fabulous week at Daweswood. As a group of 10 adults, the property was well equipped for self catering with plentiful crockery, pots and pans. The home has a fascinating quirkiness in it's decor and we loved the chance to make up our own fires on an evening. The outside pagoda area was fabulous for eating Al fresco. A short walk to the local shop and pub, and a longer hike to Aira Force and the Ulswater steamers made this the perfect location. 

We had a lovely 6 day break at Daweswood, it is a unique home and very comfortable to stay in. Upstairs, I could not fault, it was very clean with beautiful clean bathrooms with plenty of space.
I was disappointed at the level of cleaniness of the kitchen. We were the first guests allowed in on the 4th July following the 12 week lockdown due to Covid 19, I therefore did not expect to have to clean the kitchen cupboard doors down, the light fittings and knife block all of which had a thick layer of cooking grease on them. There was a new wood burner being installed in the lovely large dinning room, however, when I went to sit on one of the chairs, i brushed my hand over it first and realised that there was a thin layer of black soot on all the chairs and the large dinning room table which then had to be cleaned before anyone sat on the chairs and ruined their clothes or ate at the table. I also had to clean the outdoor furniture. Given that the home had not guest in for weeks I would have thought that a little extra care would have taken place before guests were welcomed back in.
The only other thing that lets the house down is the size of the TV it is very small for such a large house, and the inbuilt CD player did not work. The Wi-Fi is not good enough to conect to NetFlix, either which is a disappointment for teenagers who like to watch movies when the weather is bad. I have only given a 5 for equipment becuase of this and also there were no champagne glasses which would have been nice given we were their to celebrate a birthday.
If these little things could be addressed for any future guests it would make their stay way more enjoyable.
