A very nice cottage. Well placed in a very nice spot. Very well equipped. The owners are very pleasant. But not intrusive. The area is full if great places to visit. Very local to some superb lakes.

I was very lucky to be able to secure an extremely last-minute booking for a weekend at Darling How, on what was predicted to be the coldest weekend of the year so far. It looked great in the pictures, and my little dog and I arrived on the Friday afternoon to find what I can only describe as a little piece of paradise. Absolutely everything exceeded my expectations - the cottage is accessible yet feels really remote; it is beautifully designed and fitted out with everything you could possibly need. Even in the freezing weather, the cottage was cozy and warm all the time, especially when I got the log-burning stove underway. There was a very generous stock of kindling and logs provided.

Phil, one of the cottage's owners, popped up from his house to welcome me and let me know that I should just knock if I needed anything, but I never did as everything was perfect!

Outside, you walk out immediately onto good forest tracks which can take you right up into Whindlatter, either on foot or bike. I walked to Spout Force (down a steep hill with good steps, or there is a much easier route via the road) and a little easy walk on the Saturday, and then on Sunday a 10km round trip up to Lord's Seat and back, on one of the most beautiful, cold, sunny walking days I've ever experienced. The views were stunning.

I can't wait to go back to Darling How, and I most heartily recommend it.

Hi Karl, thank you for taking the time to write a review. Last minute breaks are the best aren't they? It sounds like you had an amazing time! You really couldn't have chosen better if you enjoy walking, I bet your dog loved it!
I'm sure you appreciated that lovely cosy log-burner after a day out exploring. I hope you can come back to Darling How soon, you can be sure of a warm welcome.
