With the Lakeland Fells to one side and the Irish Sea to the other, Damson Cottage resides in an idyllic location in the picturesque village of Waberthwaite close to the Estuary of the River Esk. It is a hidden gem on Cumbria's West Coast and offers excellent accommodation for up to six people. The property itself is a traditional lakeland cottage which evidence suggests dates back to the 1500s. Owners have lovingly renovated the property, paying particular attention to promoting its original character, from its impressive vaulted ceiling and exposed beams to its tiny alcoves and unusually large round sandstone boulders which are typical of this age and style of building. While packed full of charm and original features, this character property offers elegant and comfortable accommodation with 21st-century amenities.

Damson Cottage sits in a lovely country garden, with lawns and mature borders offering a pretty place to wander and relax. Backed by a small orchard and adjacent to a cobbled farmyard where the resident horse pops its head over the gate to say hello, this really is a delightful rural setting in which to enjoy the tranquillity. The village, although only small, has a village shop and post office which is home to RB Woodhall's family butchers who are renowned for producing the traditional Cumberland sausage among other tasty delights. It also has a village hall and a lovely pub, The Brown Cow, all within easy walking distance of the property. Half a mile from the cottage, down a quiet country road, the Estuary and shore are within easy walking distance. Here the Rivers Irt and Esk merge and reach the Irish Sea; a real haven of beauty and tranquility. Take a walk along the foreshore and sand dunes with the mountains and fells behind you. The nearby Eskmeals Nature Reserve mean this area is a haven for many sea birds (including a number of protected species) and wildlife - remember to listen out for the famous natterjack toad on your evening walks.

There is plenty to do and explore in the surrounding area. The property's location only a few miles from the coast yet with easy travel into the heart of the National Park means Damson Cottage is an excellent choice for those seeking variety. Gentle walking and cycling routes are possible from the doorstep, or for a more demanding challenge enjoy the short drive to the base of Scafell Pike to take on England's highest mountain. The Cumbrian Coast Line rail route journeys back and forth from Barrow-in-Furness in the south to Carlisle in the north daily, offering a great way to explore a whole host of towns and villages along the way.

If you have a larger group, you can book Damson Cottage alongside it's neighbouring property Orchard Cottage to accommodate up to 10 people.
