Great cottage with fantastic garden. We stayed for two weeks with a 5 and an 8 year old and it was perfect for that.

Hi Claire, thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay, it's a lovely place for a relaxing break isn't it? And the fabulous weather was the icing on the cake! I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.

Lovely peaceful rural setting, spacious house though if you are over 5ft, you won't get away without banging your head on the old wooden beams. Beautiful garden with an iris lined stream running through it, the irises appeared to be a favourite for a ewe and her lamb, who managed to scale the wall at the edge of the property. Other visitors were more welcome, a red squirrel came to visit us on the first day and even posed for photos and every evening a family of field mice visited the squirrel feed box outside the dining room window. The flying ants and horse flies were less welcome particularly the ants who found their way into the bed in the garden room.
The house is well kitted out and tastefully decorated, lots of interesting artwork and photos on the walls. Some of the information supplied was out of date or conflicted with the notices on the walls, e.g. Wi-Fi details and how to use the heating system; we had to have the heating on to get a hot shower. Great place for walking in beautiful Eskdale and easy access to Wasdale.

Hello Alan, thank you for taking the time to write a review. It's a lovely place to escape from the hustle and bustle for a while, isn't it? Cubben House is a beautiful cottage built way back in the 1600's so there are some low beams throughout the house but thankfully, the ceilings are higher than 5ft! Thanks so much for letting me know about the flying ants, I will monitor this closely. The owners have never had this issue before but with the warmer weather, perhaps they were higher in numbers than previous years. The owner is going to double-check all of the information provided for the WIFI and heating, I'm sorry if anything wasn't clear. I hope you will plan a return visit to the beautiful Lakes very soon!

Lovely old property in a great location, however, the upstairs en-suite and downstairs shower could be much improved. Also the drive up to the cottage is very rough and I would think that it could be easily repaired by the owner.

Hello Sharon, thank you for taking the time to write a review. Eskdale is such a beautiful part of the world, isn't it?! I am so pleased to hear you enjoyed your time at Cubben House but I'm sorry to hear you had a bit of trouble with the en-suite shower. This is actually a new unit, having been installed less than 18-months ago, but the water pressure can sometimes drop due to the private water supply. Thankfully, this doesn't happen often because there's nothing better than a shower after a long walk over the fells. The owner of Cubben House doesn't actually own the access track and instead, it belongs to a local farmer. He keeps a close eye on the road and is always happy to address anything that could become a problem. I hope you had a lovely time in the Lakes and that we can welcome you back soon!
