This is an old cottage with adequate space for 6 people with lovely views front and rear and there are several good walks direct from the door. The oil fired central heating is effective, with an additional wood burner should you wish to use it. The village has 2 tea rooms and a hotel which at the time of our visit would only cater for residents due to staff shortages. Furnishings in the cottage are adequate but dated so would benefit from an upgrade. Enough kitchen equipment and crockery provided for more than the number of guests, unfortunately kitchen space and fittings do not allow a dishwasher. Sally's provide considerable information in the pre arrival information, however, the only information in the cottage was a fire notice and how to use the wood burner. Some specific to cottage domestic information would be useful i.e. refuse removal, recycling arrangements etc.

Crag Lea is in a stunning location, with beautiful views both to the front and back.Grange is a small village with a couple of tea rooms that are open during the day.The Borrowdale Gates hotel is within walking distance and is usually open to no residents, though during our recent stay it wasn’t due to staff shortages. We first stayed at Crag Lea last year, and cannot believe how the cottage has deteriorated.A chair in the lounge is split, the sofa is in need of replacing as it’s so saggy, the kitchen cupboards are peeling, there’s mould on the bathroom blind, and tile grouting, and the kitchen blind is badly stained. We read at the beginning of the year the kitchen was due to be refitted it is in desperate need,we stored our food in bags along the wall as there is no room to store anything in the kitchen cupboards. The clothes airier was literally in pieces and unusable. The cooker though usable was like an antique, and due to no extractor unit a window had to be open at all times during use. The heating is adequate but one of radiators in the lounge was broken and you couldn’t turn it off,so again a window was left open. It’s a shame because this really could be a lovely cottage with a little bit of TLC.Will be looking for a different cottage when we return to Grange.

A lovely cottage in a great location. It's well equipped, comfortable and provides a great base for walking and cycling in Borrowdale.
