This charming second-floor apartment is the perfect romantic bolthole for couples to return to after a day out walking or exploring the many towns and villages in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

This lovely holiday property is a stylish bolthole for up to four guests people in the beautifully situated town of Sedbergh. Woven into the Victorian fabric of The Yorkshire Dales while being a thoroughly modern and stylish apartment, it makes a gorgeous lofty vantage point to take in the views. The owners have taken great care in renovating the space to make it comfortable by enhancing the period features such as exposed beams and window seats with high-spec fittings and a keen eye for modern decor.

Sedbergh dates from as early as Saxon times however it's now known chiefly as England's book town and has a charming bustling feel about it. Surrounded on all sides by the mighty Howgills and rolling green countryside, it retains much of its old-world charm and is perfect for exploring on foot. There are gentle riverside ambles and challenging fell walks available right from the door. You could get well kitted out and head to Cautley Spout, arguably England's highest waterfall, a few miles out of town. Set in a restored Victorian Woollen Mill just outside town, Farfield Mill has been developed to shoWCase textile arts and give a window into the history of the industry. Gorgeous crafts are available to buy there and the cafe makes a great place to stop for a treat.

 

The town boasts several good pubs and cafes within a short potter and countless places to peruse books for the bibliophiles among you. Sedbergh's privileged situation on the western side of the Yorkshire Dales and within easy reach of the Eastern Lake District makes it a fantastic spring board for exploration. You could take a ride on the Settle to Carlisle railway from Garsdale, visit stunning caves at Ingleborough or explore the world of Beatrix Potter in the southern Lake District all within an easy drive of this special little town.

Guests enter the property into a shared stairway with decorative Victorian floor tiles. The door to the property is on your right on the first floor. Ascending another corner staircase from here to the second floor guests emerge into a stunning double-height space with exposed beams, wooden floors and glorious views. There's a leather corner sofa for snuggling up with a good book and a wall-mounted Smart TV for entertainment. The modern kitchen is built along one wall of the space in stylish blue units. It's well equipped with a built-in fan oven, induction hobs, an eye height microwave, dishwasher and an under-counter fridge and freezer. Added to this there's a modern black dining table and chairs and all the crockery and cookware you'll need for your stay.

The lovely king-size bedroom lies just off the living room. The owners have made the most of the space with ingenious above-bed storage and wall-mounted hooks as hanging space. There's a picture perfect window seat which makes an ideal place for reading a book and watching the gently-bustling world of Sedbergh's 'Main Street' go by outside. Within the main living space is a loft-style ladder leading up to the beautiful mezzanine floor. It's separated from the main space by a glass partition and door. We would suggest that no children under eight are allowed due to the gradient of the staircase.

The Lake District National Park is situated in the north west of England in the county of Cumbria. It is famously home to England’s tallest peak, largest lake, deepest lake and some of the most beautiful views in the British Isles. It has been a major draw for holidaymakers for over 200 years and its popularity shows no signs that this will diminish anytime soon. Adding to the spectacle, there are long-distance walking trails, endless history and culture to appreciate, as well as an unbeatable array of outdoor activities to try in some exceptionally eye-catching locations.

Mountains, lakes, rocky rivers, waterfalls, and valleys lined by stone walls characterise the Lake District National Park. Add to this vision slate-roofed villages, winding country roads, arctic alpine and wildflower meadows, and beautiful birds such as skylarks, curlews, meadow pipits, and lapwings, which all provide the perfect backdrop for a holiday. The poet, William Wordsworth, who lived in Grasmere, wrote a guidebook of the area in 1810, and very little has changed in the region to tie it into the modern world. The centre of the Lake District is dominated by its craggy mountains such as Scafell Pike and its exceptional lakes like Windermere, Ullswater, Derwentwater, Coniston Water and so many more.

Each of the Lake District’s towns has a village sensibility, yet all of them offer handy amenities, cultural attractions and some of the North West’s best places to eat and drink. Top visitor attractions include The World of Beatrix Potter, Sizergh Castle, Hill Top, Go Ape Grizedale, Grizedale Forest, Fellini and Zefferelli’s Cinema/Restaurants, the Bluebird Mk II, Ravenglass Roman Bathouse alongside a world of outdoor sporting and activity providers. Natural landmarks include Aira Force, Tarn Hows, Scaffell Pike, Castlerigg Stone Circle, The Old Man of Coniston, Helvellyn and Skiddaw. Pull on your walking boots and traverse the long-distance walking trails of the Lakes like Wainwright’s Coast to Coast, and the Tour of the Lake District.

As you get to know the region better, you will find evidence of prehistoric and ancient man in the Lake District, as there are standing stones, circles, and rows to find, as well as one of the largest standing Roman buildings in the UK. Visit Ravenglass, one of the UK’s oldest settlements and the only coastal village in the Lake District; it has beautiful waterside views of the Munros of Southern Scotland. Remnants of the region’s industrial activity can be traced in the form of bobbin mills, gunpowder mills, and mines. The Lakes also have some famous literary and art associations, including Beatrix Potter, John Ruskin, Arthur Ransome, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, JMW Turner, John Constable, LS Lowry and Percy Kelly.
